India should build around 'pillar' KL Rahul for T20 WC: Brett Lee
I've backed KL Rahul to get the most runs in T20 WC, said Brett Lee.
The T20 World Cup is all set to commence from October 17 in Oman and UAE and teams will be putting up their best foot forward to claim the glory. In the same light of events, Australia pacer Brett Lee added though England looks like a big threat, India are favorites to win the high-profile event. He added that India are dominating across formats and because of IPL, the young guns are shining exceptionally.
Lee also stated that KL Rahul is one man around whom India should build now as he has been firing constantly. The former pacer is of the belief that India are a strong contender of claiming the title as they did in the inaugural edition of T20 WC in 2007. India will begin their run in the tournament with a clash against Pakistan on October 24.
“England, they’re always a big threat because of the squad they’ve got and the experience they have. But, for me, India are the favourites. You think about India dominating all formats but also because of the Indian Premier League, the young guys coming through, they’ve got some real good pace now as well and their top order can be unstoppable,” Lee added as quoted by Foxsports.com.au.
I’ve backed KL Rahul to get the most runs in the competition: Brett Lee
Lee was effusive in praise of Rahul and backed him to be the leading run-scorer in the mega event. The former paceman added that team can build around him and it will ease the pressure off skipper Virat Kohli’s shoulder. Rahul has been flaunting great form with the bat of late and even after remaining out of the playoffs race, he owns the Orange Cap of IPL 2021.
“I’ve backed KL Rahul to get the most runs in the competition. I think KL Rahul coming off a great IPL, he’s the pillar that the guys can build around him because it takes the pressure off Kohli if Rahul is scoring runs. It allows Kohli to just play his natural game. And obviously, with Kohli and the captaincy, it’s probably his last crack at it so he’ll want to go out on a high,” Lee added.
