England continued their hunt in runs on the 2nd day as well with Ben Stokes scoring a century after Moeen Ali completed his ton from resuming on 99. India finished at 63/0 at stumps after England eventually got bowled out for 537. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the day’s play.

3 – England’s innings is only the 3rd instance for a visiting team in India where they added 25 or more runs for each of the first 6 wickets. Australia at Delhi and South Africa at Chennai in 2008 are the other two instances.

3.52 – Economy rate of Indian spinners in the first innings, the 3rd worst rate for Indian spinners in a Test innings. (Min: 90 overs bowled)

4 – Stuart Broad is only the 4th player to bat at No.11 in his 100th Test match. Glenn McGrath, Makhaya Ntini and James Anderson are the other three. In fact, this was the first time Broad batted at No.11 in Tests.

6 – Number of England batsmen before this game scored century in their maiden innings in Tests in India. Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes joined the list in this game.

21 – Stuart Broad became the 21st player to bat at No.11 in Test cricket after having scored a century previously. Last such player was Ben Stokes who batted at No.11 in Nov, 2015 vs Pakistan at Sharjah after getting injured.

31.5 – Overs bowled by Umesh Yadav in the England’s first innings, the 2nd most he has bowled in a Test innings. His highest is 32.3 overs vs Australia at Melbourne in 2014.

60 – Overs bowled by Indian pacers, the most at home since 2013. Last time they bowled 60 or more overs was also against England at Kolkata in 2012. India’s opening bowlers Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma collectively bowled exactly 60 overs in the 1st innings of that Test.

99* – Mooen Ali remaining unbeaten on 99 overnight is the 15th such instance. On all the 15 instances, batsmen completed their centuries on following day.

152.5 – Number of overs Stuart Broad had to wait before taking the field for the first time in his 100th test. This is the longest a player has waited in his 100th Test match. Previous longest was Makhaya Ntini who had to wait for 150.5 overs before taking the field in his 100th over.

167 – Runs conceded by Ravi Ashwin in the England’s first innings, the 3rd most he has conceded in a Test innings. Ashwin conceded 194 vs Australia at Adelaide and 183 vs England at Kolkata, both in 2012.

169 – Stuart Broad’s highest Test score of 169 is the 7th highest score of a batsman batting at No.11. Highest is Denis Compton’s 278.

200 – Ben Stokes’ century is the 200th occasion of a visiting batsman scoring century in India.

537 – England’s total of 537 is now the 2nd highest total for any team against India under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. Highest is 572/7 dec by Australia at Sydney in 2015 which was in Kohli’s 2nd test as captain.

537 – England’s total of 537 is the highest total for a visiting team in India since West Indies’ 590 at Mumbai in 2011. This is also the first 500+ total for a visiting team in India since 2013.

2009 – Last time before this Test, three visiting batsmen scored centuries in the same Test innings in India was in 2009 by Sri Lanka at Ahmedabad.

2010 – Last time before Ben Stokes, a visiting player batting at no.6 or lower scored a century in India was New Zealand’s Kane Williamson in 2010 at Ahmedabad.

2011 – Last time before this game, three England batsmen scored centuries in the same Test innings was in 2011 vs Sri Lanka at Cardiff.

2012 – Last time before this game, India had a fifty-run opening stand in the first innings of a first match of a Test series was in 2012, also vs England at Ahmedabad.
