New Zealand will start their one and half month tour of India with a 3-match Test series which will be played at Kanpur, Kolkata and the new test venue, Indore. The Kiwis will be eager to better their poor record in the longer format in India while the hosts, who haven’t defeated New Zealand in any format in last 4 years will be looking to change things. Ahead of the series, we preview the series from the statistical point of view along with the approaching milestones for the players.

0 – Number of Test series New Zealand has won in India. They played 10 and drew 2 of them and lost in remaining 8 series.

3 – Last 3 test series New Zealand played in Asia ended in draw. They played vs Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka in 2012, vs Bangladesh in Bangladesh in 2013 and vs Pakistan in UAE in 2014 after their series defeat in India in 2012.

6 – Number of wickets Neil Wagner needs to complete 100 wickets in Test cricket.

7 – Number of wickets Ravichandran Ashwin need to complete 200 wickets in Test cricket. If Ashwin gets there in the first Test, he will be the 2nd fastest to the milestone.

9 – In the last 9 international games against New Zealand, India failed to win even one. New Zealand won 7 of them while 1 ended in Tie and another in a draw. Prior to this streak, a T20I was washed out even before a toss.

22 – The venue for the 3rd test match of this series, Holkar Stadium in Indore will be the 22nd test venue in India.

54 – Runs Rohit Sharma needs to complete 1000 runs in Tests.

138 – Runs Ajinkya Rahane needs to complete 2000 runs in Tests.

500 – First Test at Kanpur will be India’s 500th Test match. Only 3 nations have played 500 or more Tests in history before India.

1983 – Last time India lost a test at the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur (venue of 1st match of the series) was in 1983 against West Indies. Since then, India won in the 4 tests out of the 7 they played in Kanpur with other 3 ending in draw.

1988 – Last time New Zealand won a Test match in India was way back in 1988 at Mumbai. Since then they played 14 Tests and lost in 6 with another 8 ending in draws.

2012 – Last time India won any International game against New Zealand was at Bangalore in a Test match.
