India v West Indies World T20 – Combined XI

India will face West Indies on 31st March in what should be a cracking semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Men in Blue were expected to be dominant throughout the tournament however that hasn’t happened and the team has had to fight in all group matches to ensure a number 2 spot in the points table. The West Indian meanwhile have a solid all-round side that lost against Afghanistan however it didn’t matter much as they were already through to the semis. Here is the combined XI featuring India and the West Indian players. Chris Gayle: Chris Gayle. (Photo by Pal Pillai/IDI via Getty Images) The southpaw hammered a hundred in the team’s opening encounter against England at Wankhede and should once again relish the batting-friendly surface against India. He didn’t get to bat against Sri Lanka and was rested against the Afghans. The other innings he played against South Africa resulted only in 4 runs however he contributed with the ball by taking two important wickets. Gayle will be expected to bat big against India and his contest against R Ashwin will be one to watch out for. If he gives his team a flying start, one can expect another high-scoring match in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma: Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma. Rohit has played many memorable IPL innings for the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede. The right-hander loves to hit through the line and enjoys pace and bounce on offer here. India will want him to take the attack to the West Indian bowlers. His ability to play a big innings makes him a player to watch out for in matches where the stakes are high. He was incredible on the Australian tour and continued his form in the Asia Cup T20. Every Indian fan knew at the start of the World T20 that Kohli is the one who could take India all the way and he hasn’t disappointed anyone. His match- winning knocks against Pakistan and Australia once again confirmed his ever growing stature in world cricket. His ability to pace a run-chase is secondary to none and the Windies will have to stop him if they were to entertain any thoughts of taking a flight to Kolkata. Marlon Samuels: Marlon Samuels. (© Getty Images) When in flow, Marlon Samuels is a treat to watch. The elegant right-hander loves to dictate terms to the opposition bowlers and also knows how to pace his innings. He showed his class and temperament in a run-chase against South Africa while his knock against England took the pressure of Gayle. Samuels is known to produce big runs when his team needs the most. India will need his wicket early as he is the backbone of the West Indian middle order. His duel against Indian spinners should be fascinating to watch. Yuvraj Singh: Yuvraj Singh. (Photo Source: BCCI) Yuvraj Singh has done reasonably well in the limited opportunities he has had with the bat in the tournament. He failed against New Zealand and Bangladesh, however, made two important 20s against Pakistan and Australia giving good support to Virat Kohli. Against the Aussies, he twisted his ankle, however, continued batting and showed his courage. His bowling was also economical and produced an important wicket. India will need another important contribution from him in the middle order. MS Dhoni (C/wk): Indian skipper MS Dhoni. (Photo Source: BCCI) Captain Cool has led the team brilliantly throughout the competition and is expected to do the same in the big matches. He has won all the major ICC events as a skipper and will want to add one more trophy to his cabinet. As a batsman, he has had little to do in the competition however he did score some runs against Kiwis and Bangladesh. It will not be surprising if he promotes himself in the batting order if need be. He lifted the 2011 World Cup at the same venue and has happy memories of this ground. Andre Russell: West Indies cricketer Andre Russell. He bowls at a good pace and has a sharp bouncer as well. He is yet to deliver with the bat, however, the conditions on offer for the semi-final, make him a dangerous prospect for the Indian side. He is known to strike the ball big and is capable of clearing any boundary. His all-round skills will be vital to his team’s chances. Dwayne Bravo: West Indies bowler Dwayne Bravo. The way he used his slower balls to flummox the batsmen was exemplary. Even someone of the calibre of AB de Villiers had no answer for Bravo’s guile on a slow pitch in Nagpur. Bravo will also want to fire with the bat in this all-important match. He is no stranger to Indian conditions like most West Indian and will relish the opportunity to play against a packed house at Wankhede. Ravindra Jadeja: Ravindra Jadeja. (© IDI via Getty Images) The left-arm spinner has picked up just 4 wickets in the tourney however his economy rate of 5.86 is superb. He has taken some crucial wickets for his team and will have to be at his best against a strong West Indian batting lineup. Jadeja’s 4 overs will be crucial to India’s chances and his fast arm balls may test the West Indians. If there is some turn on offer, he is capable of exploiting it. A quality left-arm spinner adds variety to a side and Jadeja is a vital component of India’s bowling unit. Badree bowls well with the new ball and generally bowls fast and straight. He isn’t a big spinner of the ball, however, uses subtle variations in length and pace to keep the batsmen guessing. Badree is a proven performer in the shortest format of the game and has played in T20 leagues around the world. His experience will come in handy against India. Ashish Nehra: Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra. (Photo by MUNIR UZ ZAMAN/AFP/Getty Images) At 36, an age at which even batsmen would find it difficult to make an international comeback, Nehra the paceman was resurrected by the Indian selectors with the World T20 in mind. The left-arm quick from New Delhi hasn’t disappointed and been a vital cog in an Indian bowling lineup. Using his years of experience he has used the new ball well giving India crucial breakthroughs. At the death, he has proved useful when the batsmen are looking to tee off. In this competition, he has picked up 4 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 5.93.
