Team India would aim to end their dismal run as they take on Afghanistan in their upcoming fixture in the T20 World Cup 2021. The encounter takes place at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday (November 3). Having lost their first two matches in the global event, the Men in Blue are in all sorts of trouble. In order to qualify for the semi-finals, India need to win their remaining fixtures handsomely and hope the other match results fall in their favour. On the other hand, Afghanistan are also eyeing a berth in the knock-out stage, having won two of their first three games. Hence, an interesting contest is on the cards.

Head to Head record:

India dominate Afghanistan in terms of head-to-head record in T20Is. These two teams have played just two T20I matches so far and the Men in Blue emerged victorious in both occasions. Notably, both matches were recorded in T20 World Cups and India would be determined to extend their winning streak.

Last T20 World Cup meeting:

As mentioned above, these two sides met twice in T20 World Cup before. Their last meeting in the shortest international format was recorded in the 2012 edition of the competition. Afghanistan had won the toss in that game and elected to bowl at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India didn’t start off well as openers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag got out cheaply.

However, Virat Kohli played a solid knock and brought his side back on track. While the then youngster scored a well-paced half-century, Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni chipped in with crucial contributions. As a result, the Indian side posted 159/5.

Chasing the challenging total, Afghanistan got off to a decent start. However, regular fall of wickets pushed them back. They eventually got bundled out for 136, losing the contest by 23 runs.
