India vs Australia: BCCI announces the 15-man squad for the T20I series
Mayank Markande has received his maiden call-up.
India are all set to host Australia for the two T20 Internationals and five ODIs starting from February 24. This series will be the last for the Men in Blue before the World Cup and they will be hoping to fill a remaining couple of slots in the squad. Though it seems that the thinking for the T20Is is completely different from the selectors as the leggie Mayank Markande has received his maiden call-up in the national side.
The leggie picked a five-wicket haul in the four-day game against England Lions on Friday and soon after the game was finished, has been picked to play for India. The BCCI has announced the 15-man squad for the series as KL Rahul has also made a comeback which will definitely be his last chance to prove before the mega event in England.
Bhuvi rested
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been rested after the pacer played all the limited-overs matches on the Trans Tasman tour. Umesh Yadav is also the part of the T20I squad and it will be interesting to see if he gets a game to prove himself. He might be in the contention if the selectors opt to go for four pacers in the World Cup squad.
Vijay Shankar is being backed to the hilt and might just have won the heart of the selectors with his impressive show in New Zealand. Siddarth Kaul didn’t get a game against the Kiwis and has been retained in the team for Australia series now. He might get an opportunity in these two matches and Kaul will look to grab this chance now.
India squad for the T20I series: Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma (VC), KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni (WK), Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Vijay Shankar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav, Siddharth Kaul, Mayank Markande.
