The ‘Men in Blue’ went down fighting in the first T20I against Australia in Visakhapatnam. They lost on the final delivery off the game as Umesh Yadav failed to defend 14 runs in the last over. In a bid to rotate the players and give the fringe players a chance before the World Cup, India opted to make quite a few changes to their XI. Mayank Markande was given an opportunity while Umesh Yadav was back in the side after a while. Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan was rested and KL Rahul was given a chance at the top of the order.

However, despite not making it to the playing XI, Dhawan was trolled. On the eve of the game, the Delhi opener posted a picture on social media after practice and captioned it “All set for tomorrow. Bring it on”. He was seen running onto the ground with MS Dhoni’s bat when the former skipper called for a change of bat.

Social media, Twitter, in particular, made fun of Dhawan for the post in the lead up to the game. The caption of the picture he posted the previous day was the main reason for the trolls.

Here is how Twitter made a mockery of Dhawan

We were 15-20 runs short: Bumrah

Despite the early loss of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli gave India a good start. Rahul who was back in the team was in excellent touch as he struck a fluent half-century. However, the wicket of the Indian skipper triggered a collapse in the middle overs. MS Dhoni was left stranded at one end and with no proper batsman at the other end, he turned down singles. He tried to get the ball away but struggled for timing.

India scored just 46 runs in the last 10 overs as they posted an under-par total of 126. However, a valiant effort from the bowlers helped them drag the game to the final ball. Jasprit Bumrah who was the star with the ball felt that they were 15-20 runs short but he credited the fight that India showed.

“We were trying our best. He was just trying to take the game deep and trying to get us to a safe total. I think we were short by 15-20 runs but still, we had something that we could fight,” Bumrah was quoted saying in the post-match press conference.
