India could not have asked for a better man to score a century in their maiden day-night Test match as the skipper Virat Kohli struck 136 against Bangladesh. Kohli’s knock ensured India took a 200+ lead in the first innings before they declared on 347/9. Virat scored 136 from only 194 deliveries with help of 18 boundaries. He shared three consecutive 50+ partnerships Pujara, Rahane and Jadeja before getting dismissed to a brilliant catch by Taijul Islam.

1 – Virat Kohli became the 1st Indian to score a century in a day-night Test match. This match is Kohli’s maiden appearance in any first-class match played under lights. Exactly 13 years ago on November 23, Virat made his first-class debut while playing for Delhi against Tamil Nadu. Kohli scored his maiden International century and 50th International tons at the Eden Gardens only.
10 – Kohli now has 10 centuries in Test cricket at home while leading the Indian team. These are the most Test tons at home for an Indian captain surpassing Sunil Gavaskar’s nine. Overall, only Ricky Ponting (11) has scored more home Test tons as captain than Kohli who is currently tied with Steve Smith and Greg Chappell.
20 – Number of hundreds for Kohli as captain in Test cricket; the 2nd most by any player while leading the team. Graeme Smith leads the list with 25 hundreds and surpassed Ricky Ponting’s tally of 19 hundreds.
41 – Virat now has 41 centuries as captain in International cricket; the joint-most International tons as skipper. Ricky Ponting also has 41 International hundreds but took 376 innings for those while Kohli got there in exactly half number of innings (188).
70 – Kohli has 70 tons across all International formats; the 3rd most by any player. Sachin Tendulkar hit as many as 100 hundreds while Ricky Ponting scored 71 including one for World XI.
136 – Virat Kohli’s 136-run knock is now the joint-highest individual score in a D/N Test match for a captain. Joe Root also scored exactly 136 in England’s inaugural D/N Test against West Indies in 2017 at Edgbaston.
141 – Number of innings Virat needed to score his 27th century in Test cricket; the joint 2nd fastest to 27 Test tons. Sir Donald Bradman got there in 70 innings while Sachin Tendulkar also needed 141 Test innings for 27 Test centuries.
5014 – Virat Kohli completed 5000 as Test captain when he was on 32 on day 1. He needed only 86 innings for this milestone; the fewest among the six players to have scored 5000 Test runs as captain.
9032 – Virat Kohli now has scored 9032 runs on Indian soil across all three International formats; the 2nd most by any player behind Sachin Tendulkar’s 14192 runs. Virat became only the 3rd player with 9000 International runs in India and also went past Rahul Dravid’s 9004 runs. A total of 12 players have aggregated 9000 International runs in a country but Virat Kohli’s average of 62.28 is nearly 10 more than any other player.
