India vs England: Michael Vaughan takes a dig at Virat Kohli for his 'we have not cribbed about any pitch' remark
Michael Vaughan was not impressed with Virat Kohli's statement over the pitch.
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has taken a sly dig at Virat Kohli after the Indian skipper’s latest remark over the pitch used in the ongoing Test series against England. The pitches used for the second and third Test have invited criticism for favouring spinners right from day one. India won both the Tests comprehensively to take an unassailable lead in the four-match series.
The pitch used for the third Test in Ahmedabad has faced more criticism after the game ended inside two days. A total of thirty wickets fell in just over a day and a half as batsmen from both teams struggled to apply themselves on a track that was offering sporadic spin. England managed to score only 112 and 81 runs in their two innings.
India, on the other hand, scored just 145 in their first innings before scoring the required 49 runs without losing a wicket in the second innings to win the game by ten wickets. Following the game, the English cricket fraternity led by some former players came down hard on the pitch. Some even urged the ICC to take action.
Michael Vaughan takes shots at Virat Kohli
Unsurprisingly, Virat Kohli was asked about the pitch when he was addressing the media on the eve of the ongoing fourth Test. In reply, the 32-year old hit back at the critics and said that India are successful in the longest format because they don’t fancy cribbing about match pitches.
“The reason for our success is that we have not cribbed about any pitch we have played on and we will continue to play like that. We all need to be honest with ourselves what is the idea behind continuing this narrative and what purpose it serves people who keep continuing the conversation which is one-sided,” Kohli said in the press conference.
Soon after Kohli’s statement, Michael Vaughan decided to take a dig at the India skipper. The outspoken former cricketer, who has not been shying away from criticising the pitch, took to Twitter to post his message. Making it clear that he did not like Kohli’s comment, Vaughan tweeted:
“Pretty sure the Groundsman was sacked after the 1st Test because the pitch was too flat !!!!! Isn’t that cribbing about a pitch ?? #JustAsking?
