India vs New Zealand, 2nd T20I Stats Review: Rohit Sharma’s record, Martin Guptill’s new landmark and more stats
Martin Guptill (3248) went past Kohli’s tally of 3227 runs to become the highest run-getter in T20I cricket.
India seem to have got their mojo back after a horrendous campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021. The Men in Blue thrashed New Zealand by seven wickets in the second T20I, sealing the series 2-0. While the opening game went right down to the wire and an exciting contest was witnessed, this was a pretty much one-sided affair with India chasing down 154 in 17.2 overs.
Speaking of how the game panned out, India unsurprisingly opted to bowl after winning the toss at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. New Zealand’s top-order came to the party once again with all from the top four – Martin Guptill, Daryl Mitchell, Mark Chapman, Glenn Phillips – coming to the party. However, some magnificent bowling in the death overs meant the Kiwis were restricted to 153/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
India’s chase couldn’t have gone smoother as openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were once again at the top of their A-game. Both dashers slammed half-centuries and knocked the Kiwis out of the contest. Although Tim Southee spiced up the proceedings with three quick wickets, Rishabh Pant’s brief came guided India to a comfortable win.
