Former England batter Michael Vaughan feels that the India-Pakistan rivalry is the biggest rivalry compared to the likes of even the recently concluded Ashes series. England lost the Ashes 0-4 to Australia and a lot of experts felt the Ashes lacked the competitiveness and controversies it used to have in the past.
Meanwhile, the ICC released the schedule for the T20 World Cup 2022 on Friday and the much anticipated India-Pakistan game is scheduled to take place on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. India and Pakistan were placed in the same group in the T20 World Cup 2021 as well and it was the Babar Azam-led side that emerged victorious on that occasion.
However, India’s record against Pakistan in World Cups is unbelievable and they will be looking to make amends with a win in this year’s edition of the tournament. It will be one of the highly anticipated games of the tournament as the excitement had already started on social media.
It’s going to be an epic event – Michael Vaughan
Vaughan noted that he feels the India-Pakistan game is the biggest rivalry in world cricket despite having played in a lot of Ashes games. He added that Rohit Sharma as a captain of the Indian side will have a stiff task now and expects him to face the heat in crucial encounters like these games. Rohit replaced Kohli as India’s new T20I captain after the 2021 T20 World Cup 2021 as the latter decided to step down from leadership.
“I think, we being England and Australia ex-players, we all kind of think of the Ashes as the biggest game in world cricket, it’s not! India vs Pakistan is the biggest game. Looking forward to Rohit Sharma being the captain, probably the first time he’s going to be under real pressure. It’s going to be an epic event,” Vaughan said while speaking to Star Sports.
The 2022 edition of the T20 World cup will feature two rounds, first, the qualification round and four teams from round 1 will progress into the Super 12 stages. India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh have all been placed in group 2 alongside the winner of Group B and runner-up in Group A.
