India vs South Africa: Indian squad for the tour - 2013 and Now
2018 is here and it has brought with it the much talked-about clash between India and South Africa.
Wicketkeepers – Wriddhiman Saha
The transition of wicket-keeping gloves from the veteran MS Dhoni to Wriddhiman Saha in Tests has been a smooth one, indeed. Although he’d travelled to South Africa the last time around as the second option for wicket-keeping duties, he’d not found a place in the playing XI in either of the Tests.
The 33-year old has 65 catches and 10 stumpings to his name in his entire Test career till date. Apart from his deft skills with the glove and quick reflexes behind the stumps, Saha has proved to be more than useful with the willow on more than one occasion. He’s scored 1082 Test runs from 2014-2017, which includes 3 centuries against the likes of West Indies, Bangladesh and Australia.
Parthiv Patel
India will find their replacement wicket-keeper in Parthiv Patel if the need be. Although Patel has been around for long, he’s been unable to seal his spot in the side in recent times owing to the onset of young talent. The 32-year old sports figures similar to that of Saha with 52 catches and 10 stumpings in the longer version of the sport.
His last stint for Team India had been in the England Tour of 2016, where he had been asked to step in, owing to an injury sustained by the regular keeper, Saha. As for his batting skills, Patel has 878 runs to his credit in 23 Test matches, with the highest score of 71 runs against England in Chennai.
