Ravindra Jadeja alone was enough for the Sri Lankan team in the first Test match in Mohali as he dismantled the visitors with both bat and the ball. The No. 1 all-rounder in the latest ICC Test player rankings, Jadeja hammered an unbeaten 175 runs in the first innings and took nine wickets in the game to tear apart the Lankan Lions as he won the third consecutive Player of the Match award in Tests at the venue with Rohit Sharma‘s India winning the match comfortably by an innings and 222 runs.

Batting first, the new No. 3 for India Hanuma Vihari and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant scored 58 and 96 runs respectively with Virat Kohli mustering 45 runs in his 100th Test match. Jadeja then began his heroics with the bat as he smashed his second Test century. R Ashwin also slammed a fifty as the hosts posted a huge total of 574/8d. The tourists suffered miserably in both innings as they got bundled out for below 200 in both innings.

Sri Lanka got dismissed for 174 runs in the first innings and 178 in the second as Jadeja snared five and four wickets respectively. India will be appearing in their fourth Day/Night Test match. The Asian giants have won two and lost one under the lights. Both the victories came on home soil – against Bangladesh in 2019 and England in 2021.

Sri Lanka also has the same record of two wins and one loss in three matches. Rohit Sharma, who will play his 400th international match for India, will look to whitewash Sri Lanka in the Tests as well to remain unbeaten since the start of the West Indies series back in early February.

Head to Head: India and Sri Lanka have met each other in 45 Test matches with India winning 21, losing seven, and 17 games ending in a draw. In India, both sides have clashed in 21 Tests with the hosts tasting success on 12 occasions and nine matches ending up in a draw. India have never lost a Test match against Sri Lanka at home. India and Sri Lanka have played one Test in Bangalore in the year 1994 and India won the game by an innings and 95 runs.
