India vs Windies, 5th ODI - India Player Ratings

It was more of an anti-climax to an anticipated decider game of the India vs Windies ODI series. Prior to the commencement of the series, the visitors were tipped get steamrolled by the Virat Kohli-led side. However, the kind of fight the Windies team produced in the shorter format showed their cricketing spirit. The action moved to Thiruvananthapuram for the final match of the 5-match series with India leading 2-1.

A win for the Indian team meant a series win and a victory for the visitors would have fetched them a memorable feat of levelling the series. However, as the things turned out on the day, it was a no-show from Windies. The Indian team romped home in style with a thoroughly clinical performance to seal the series 3-1.

Having won the toss, Windies opted to bat first. Only three batsmen could get into the double digits as the innings folded out on 104 in 31.5 overs. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers for India with 4/34 to his name. In the run chase, the hosts needed just 14.5 overs to overhaul the total with Rohit Sharma remaining unbeaten on 63.

Shikhar Dhawan – 2/10

The sorry state with Dhawan’s batting in the series continued yet again. While the other players of the Indian top order made merry in the series, Dhawan largely struggled to get going. In this game, he had ample opportunity to get his eyes in and get runs under his belt. But he ended up perishing on 6 as Oshane Thomas cleaned him up for the second time in the series.

Rohit Sharma – 9/10

Rohit started off from where he had left in the previous game. The opener looked in sublime form as he anchored the run chase to perfection. The target was not a daunting one and Rohit did not get carried away. He got his feet moving and ended up remaining unbeaten on 63 off 56 deliveries with 5 fours and 4 sixes.

Virat Kohli – 8/10

Kohli joined Rohit at the crease early on in the run chase. He added an unbeaten 99-run stand for the second wicket with Rohit to see India home. The Indian captain, who had a rare failure in the previous game, batted well for his unbeaten 33 off 29 deliveries studded with 6 boundaries.

Ambati Rayudu – Not Assigned

Ambati Rayudu did not have a major role to play in the match. His services with the bat were not needed on the day. On the field, Rayudu pocketed a catch to see Keemo Paul head back to the pavilion.

MS Dhoni – Not Assigned

The Indian top order was too good to handle for the visitors. MS Dhoni did not get a chance to bat in the game. This, essentially, meant that the former skipper had a quiet series on the whole. With the gloves, Dhoni fared decently taking a solitary catch on the day.

Kedar Jadhav – 6/10

Kedar Jadhav’s services with the bat were also not needed on the day. Also, he was not tested with the ball early on the in the game. He made his presence felt on the field though, taking three catches.

Ravindra Jadeja – 9/10

Ravindra Jadeja emerged as the pick of the Indian bowlers. He returned with figures of 4/34 in the 9.5 overs that he bowled. He took two big wickets that of Marlon Samuels and Shimron Hetmyer, to rock the Windies camp. He came back strong towards the end as well, accounting for the wickets of number 10 and 11.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 7/10

Bhuvneshwar got only four overs to bowl on the day. But it would be safe to say that he played his part in the game. He dismissed Kieran Powell in the very first over of the game. He bowled a brilliant maiden first up and ended up conceding 11 runs in the 4 overs that he bowled.

Khaleel Ahmed – 8.5/10

Youngster Khaleel bowled a dream spell in the previous game. In this match, he managed to continue his good show again. He breached Rovman Powell’s resistance that lasted 39 deliveries in the innings. Later, he got the big wicket of the Windies skipper Jason Holder as well. Khaleel wrapped up with 2/29 in the 7 overs that he bowled.

Kuldeep Yadav – 6/10

Kuldeep had a decent time in the match. He bowled five overs and conceded just 18 runs. He seemed like picking up a wicket every time he took a stride on to bowl. He managed to get just one wicket to his name though. He dismissed Keema Paul towards the end of the Windies innings.

Jasprit Bumrah – 8.5/10

Jasprit Bumrah came really good for the Indian team in the match. He bowled 6 overs and conceded just 11 runs at a miserly economical rate of just 1.83. He scalped two wickets including the wicket of in-form batter Shai Hope. Later, he accounted for the wicket of Fabien Allen.
