After losing the Test series by 2-0, Windies were hoping to put up a better account of themselves in the limited-overs leg of the tour. But they’ve been jolted with a huge blow ahead of the ODI series as the opener Evin Lewis has withdrawn his name from the entire tour due to the personal reasons. Earlier, even Chris Gayle, who is currently featuring in the Afghanistan Premier League (APL), had denied playing for Windies in both the series.
Lewis was also in the news recently for denying the central contract in order to play in the T20 league across the world. The ODI squad already looks depleted now in the absence of Andre Russell, Gayle and now Lewis. Cricket West Indies (CWI) has named Kieran Powell and Nicholas Pooran as his replacement in the ODI and T20I series respectively according to Cricbuzz.
Obed McCoy also added to ODI squad
CWI has also added the fast bowler Obed McCoy as Alzarri Joseph’s replacement who will remain under the observation until he returns to full fitness. McCoy was already picked in the T20I squad after impressive performances in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) this season.
The five-match ODI series is all set to commence on October 21 in Guwahati after which the action will move to Visakhapatnam. Mumbai and Pune are slated to host the following two matches as the series will conclude in Thiruvananthapuram. The first of the three T20 Internationals will be played on November 4 as the tour will conclude exactly after a week.
