India vs Windies: MS Dhoni effects an electric stumping to send back Keemo Paul
Jadeja was also surprised with the quick stumping.
At 37, MS Dhoni has become much slower with the bat. But when it comes to his glovework, the veteran is still as electric as he has been in the past. The speed with which he stumped the Windies batsman Keemo Paul in the fourth ODI at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Monday shows he is far from being a spent force, at least in wicket-keeping.
It happened in the penultimate ball of the 28th over during the Caribbeans’ 377 run-chase. The visitors were staring at a defeat with 8 down for 132. Paul was giving company to his captain Jason Holder to reduce the gap of defeat and was batting on 19 off 17 balls. Ravindra Jadeja was introduced into the attack even as Paul lunged forward only for the ball to turn away from him.
MS Dhoni reacted in 0.08 seconds to complete his work and Paul was caught short of the crease. The batsman did not even wait for the third umpire’s verdict and walked off. Dhoni, meanwhile, sported an expert’s smile even as the bowler was wondering whether it was indeed a dismissal.
The Windies were bowled out for 153 inside 37 overs to lose the game by 224 runs. India now lead the five-match series 2-1 with the final match scheduled to be played in Trivandrum on November 1.

Dhoni equals Mark Boucher with the stumping
With Paul’s stumping, MS Dhoni became the joint third-best wicket-keeper in the world in terms of dismissals. He equalled former South African keeper Mark Boucher’s tally of 424 dismissals in 295 matches though taking 36 matches more. Only Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (482 dismissals in 404 matches) and Australia’s Adam Gilchrist (472 in 287 matches) are ahead of Dhoni now.
The Indian wicket-keeper though has effected a record 115 stumpings, which makes him the only one in the world with a three-figure tally. The second best in the list is Sangakkara who finished with 99 scalps. The second Indian in the list is Nayan Mongia who has made 154 dismissals in 140 games.
