India vs Windies, T20I Series 2018 - Combined XI

It was a rather tricky end to what seemed like a one-way roadshow in the Indian home season. Team India eked out a last-ball win in the final T20I against Windies to complete a 3-0 whitewash. Prior to the T20Is, the Indian team had thumped the visitors in the other two formats of the game as well. However, when the shortest format beckoned, a lot was expected from Windies as the expectations were that from the World Champions of the format. In the first game at Kolkata, the very venue where the visitors had lifted the World T20 title in 2016, they were beaten by 5 wickets in a low scoring contest. The second game in Lucknow was all about Rohit Sharma’s record-breaking ton. The final match went down the wire with Fabian Allen almost defending 5 runs in the final over. Eventually, the Indian side prevailed in all three games and won convincingly. India extended their domination in home conditions. At the very same time, the luckless run of the Windies team continued in the subcontinent as they have now lost 9 consecutive T20Is on Asian soil. The Indian skipper continued his good form with the bat in the T20Is as well. The Lucknow crowd was delighted to see Rohit in action in the second T20I. Rohit hammered an unbeaten 111 off just 61 deliveries in the match with 8 fours and 7 towering maximums. With the captaincy hat on, Rohit looked highly impressive with some brilliant bowling changes and smart field placements. 2. Shikhar Dhawan Shikhar Dhawan. He had failed to score well in the ODIs and the pressure was building up in the T20Is. He did score 43 in the second T20I but at a rather sluggish rate. Dhawan silenced all his critics with a match-winning 92 off just 62 balls in the final match to take India home. He looked a class apart, showing exceptional skills in building his innings to perfection in the run chase. 3. Nicholas Pooran Nicholas Pooran. (Photo Source: Twitter) Nicholas Pooran is a T20 specialist. He did not get a game in the first match and missed out on scoring well in the second game as well. But Pooran came really good in the final match of the series. He smacked a whirlwind 53 off just 25 balls studded with four boundaries and as many number of sixes. His efforts helped Windies post 181 on the board. 4. Rishabh Pant Rishabh Pant. (Photo Source: Twitter) Young Rishabh Pant had a horrible run of form in the first two matches of the series. He was guilty of throwing his wicket away recklessly. He finds his name in the list owing to his stellar show with the bat in the final match of the series. He scored his maiden T20I fifty and brought it up in quick time – just 30 deliveries. He finished with 58 off 38 balls in the match to wrap things on a high in the home season. 5. But the ones who know his calibre would certainly know that he got very few chances in the series. He scored a decent 23 in the second match and looked very solid for his 43 in the final T20I as well. A few more chances here and there and the southpaw could have made an impact in the series for sure. 6. Dinesh Karthik Dinesh Karthik. (Photo Source: Twitter) Dinesh Karthik was the preferred wicketkeeper for Team India in the series. In the recent times, his keeping has been under the radar. The veteran cricketer ensured that he did not harm his keeping reputation in the series. With the bat, he showed great sensible batting skills in the first match when India had almost slipped away in a tricky low target chase. Karthik top scored with an unbeaten 31 in the match to steer the Indian team home. 7. Krunal Pandya Krunal Pandya. (Photo Source: Twitter) All-rounder Krunal Pandya made his international debut in the series. He had a dream debut in Kolkata where he scalped his franchise teammate Kieron Pollard as his maiden international wicket. He finished with impressive figures of 1/15 on debut. Also, he chipped in with crucial runs in the same game and hit the winning runs for his side. He continued his good show with an economical spell in Lucknow. A rare failure came his way in the final game when he was taken away for 40 runs but will prove to be a learning curve. 8. Fabian Allen Fabian Allen. (Photo Source: Twitter) There were very few players from the Windies camp who showed fight in the series. Among those few faces was Fabian Allen. The left-arm spinner almost won the game for his side in the Chennai T20I. He just failed to defend 5 in the final over to win the game for his side. It was his this very effort that earns him a feature in this list. He finished with 1/23 in the final game of the tour. 9. Kuldeep Yadav Kuldeep Yadav. (Photo Source: Twitter) Kuldeep Yadav proved to be an unsolved mystery for the Men from the Caribbean. Neither did they negotiate him well in the ODIs, nor did their struggles end in the T20Is. Kuldeep was the pick of the Indian bowlers when the visitors could only manage 109 in the first match. It was Kuldeep who ran through the middle order accounting for three big wickets of Darren Bravo, Rovman Powell and Carlos Brathwaite. He finished with figures of 3/13 in the match. He followed it up with 2/32 in the match that followed. 10. Oshane Thomas Oshane Thomas. (Photo Source: Twitter) Young Oshane Thomas is perhaps the find of the tour for Windies. The tall pace bowler showed mighty grit and spirit as he ran in hard with the new cherry in hand. He oozed sheer aggression by clocking speeds close to 150kmph on a consistent basis. Also, his battle against Shikhar Dhawan seemed to be a talking point throughout the course of the series. Thomas returned with figures of 2/21 in the first game, and followed it up with numbers of 0/27 and 1/43. 11. Jasprit Bumrah Jasprit Bumrah of India. (Photo Source: Getty Images) Jasprit Bumrah arrived in to the series as a premier T20I bowler and he did absolutely no harm to his reputation either. He did what he is known for – bowled yorkers and slower ones to perfection. He was tidy in Kolkata, returning with 1/27 in his four overs as Windies rattled down on 109. In Lucknow, he bettered his performance with figures of 2/20 in his quota of four overs.
