India vs Windies: Virender Sehwag expected a double-century from Rohit Sharma
Rohit got out after scoring 162 runs.
Team India was challenged by the Caribbean side and they needed a special knock to make a comeback in the series. The stage was set in his home ground and Rohit Sharma put his hand up. It was only about time that he will score runs in the limited-overs format. India’s vice-captain missed out in the last two matches and he wanted to make it count this time around. Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag was happy to see him notch up yet another century and backed him to score his fourth double ton.
Rohit was in the mood today and he showed it soon after stepping out to bat on the field. The first ball from Kemar Roach was wide and short and he didn’t miss out on the opportunity to get himself going. The 31-year-old smacked a 99 metre-six as well but the wickets at the other end kept him quiet for some time. Rohit played according to the situation and concentrated on stitching the partnership with Ambati Rayudu.
The Hyderabad player also batted well to keep things calm for the team which made sure that India didn’t waste a good start. The partnership took the team ahead from strength to strength.
Rohit goes berserk
Rohit Sharma reached his century with a trademark backfoot cut shot in the 33rd over of the innings and then opened up his arms. He took the attack to the opposition nonchalantly and literally left the bowlers out of ideas. At one point, it seemed like Sehwag’s prediction would come true as Rohit crossed 150-run mark in no time. He unfurled all the cheeky shots in his book.
Just when everyone thought that he will easily score his fourth double ton, Ashley Nurse dismissed him on 162 to silence the crowd. With the dismissal, Sehwag’s prediction also went wrong. But an exceptional knock from Rohit saw the Windies players also congratulating him with the crowd giving a standing ovation as well.
