India have had a wonderful time in their recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand as they won it comfortably 4-1. After three victories in Napier and Mount Maunganui respectively, the Men in Blue took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series. Today, they also emerged victorious in the fifth and final match at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington by 35 runs.
The last encounter was nothing, but a dead rubber. Nevertheless, it wasn’t any short of intensity as both the teams fought tooth and nail to get the better of each other. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first, but got off to a ridiculous start as they were reduced to 18 for four in the 10th over. Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Shikhar Dhawan perished inside 10 overs.
A proud Indian team
However, Ambati Rayudu and Vijay Shankar brought India back into the contest with a 98-run partnership. The stand came to an end with Shankar’s run-out. Hardik Pandya churned out a cameo of 45 runs from 22 balls to take India to 252 in their 50 overs. Kedar Jadhav also played his part. Matt Henry was the most successful of the Black Caps’ bowlers with four wickets.
The Kiwis’, in their run-chase, stuttered and lost wickets at regular intervals. Colin Munro, Kane Williamson, James Neesham and Mitchell Santner scored 24, 39, 37 and 44 runs respectively, but none of them could go on and get the big scores. Yuzvendra Chahal got three wickets. Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya picked up a couple of wickets each in their respective spells.
Only Vijay Shankar couldn’t get a wicket in his four-over spell. After collecting the winners’ trophy, every other Indian player were extremely happy. In the meantime, Jadhav shouted ‘How’s the Josh’ and the other cricketers replied ‘High Sir’. The same dialogue was in the movie Uri and Vicky Kaushal, the Indian actor, was seen saying it to his troops before the ‘Surgical Strike’
