Injury forces David Warner to opt out of Australia’s tour to Bangladesh: Cricket Australia today released a statement that said that the country’s Test opener and newly-appointed vice-captain David Warner will miss the team’s two-Test tour of Bangladesh because of a fractured left thumb.

Warner picked up the injury while batting at Lord’s in the second one-day international against England later last month.Fortunately for Australia, there isn’t any need for a surgery and Warner is expected to be perfectly fit for Australia’s home series against New Zealand that is scheduled to take place November.

Australia play Bangladesh in a 3-day tour match in Fatullah beginning Oct. 3 before Tests in the coastal city of Chittagong from Oct. 9 and in the capital Dhaka beginning Oct. 17.

It will be the third Test series between the two countries and the first since Australia’s 2-0 victory in Bangladesh in 2006. While it is expected that Australia might brush aside the Bangladeshis, one must also take into account how the Bangla tigers historically swept the series against India, Pakistan and South Africa this year.

The absence of David Warner, one of the most explosive and dangerous batsmen currently in world cricket may enable the Bangladeshis to capitalize on and take maximum advantage.
