Inzamam-ul-Haq believes Pakistan can cease losing streak against India in the World Cup

The India-Pakistan rivalry is considered one of the most intriguing ones in the cricketing world. However, when it comes to the World Cup, Team India has been a dominant force as arch-rival Pakistan are yet to beat them in six attempts since 1992. The closest Pakistan came to beating India was in the semi-final of the 2011 World Cup at the PCA Stadium in Mohali, where they eventually lost the match by 29 runs.

The two Asian Giants are scheduled to again lock horns in the upcoming World Cup on June 16 at the Old Trafford in Manchester. Moreover, Sarfaraz Ahmed & Co have suffered 10 consecutive defeats in the ODI format and were also defeated by Afghanistan in their first warm-up match by three wickets. Meanwhile, chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq feels that Pakistan has the potential of ceasing their six-match losing streak against Virat Kohli’s men. He also threw light on the outline of an Indo-Pak contest.

“People take Indo-Pak match very seriously and some even go on to say that ‘we will be happy even if only we can win against India during the World Cup’. I’m hopeful that we will end our losing streak against India in World Cup matches,” Inzamam was quoted as saying in a Pakistan cricket website.

Tough to select fast bowlers, says Inzamam

Pakistan made three changes from their provisional squad. Junaid Khan, Faheem Ashraf and Abid Ali faced the axe while Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz and Asif Ali made the cut. Inzamam came under fire for making some questionable changes. He talked about the difficulties of zeroing in on 15 players and admitted that it was tough to shortlist the fast bowlers from a talented bunch.

“People think it is easy to jot down 14-15 players in order to form a squad, but it’s nothing like that because there is a lot of pressure. For example, it was very difficult for us to select fast-bowlers for the World Cup because there were a lot of good names around including the likes of (Mohammad) Amir, Junaid (Khan) and (Usman Khan) Shinwari,” Inzamam, also a former Pakistan cricketer added.
