Inzamam-ul-Haq sees Babar Azam as a potential world class batsman
To be hailed among the best in the world, Babar Azam would want to extend his dominion in the longest format of the game.
Former Pakistani cricketer and the current Chief Selector of the national side, Inzamam-ul-Haq, has showered praises on young batsman Babar Azam. In his most recent remarks about the 23-year old middle-order batsman, Inzamam has quoted him to be a potential world class batsman. He looked highly impressed with the way Babar has been scoring runs consistently.
As per the recent quotes in brecorder, Inzamam mentioned that after a long time the Pakistan cricket have found a batsman who could well go on to be a world class player. He termed Babar Azam as a quality and fantastic player. In the recent times, Azam has proved to be the mainstay of the Pakistani batting lineup in the limited overs cricket.
“Babar Azam is a fantastic player. After a long time we have a quality batsman who can become world-class,” stated Inzamam-ul-Haq.
Recent form
Azam’s herculean run in international cricket began a season ago when he announced his arrival at the big stage with 3 consecutive ODI centuries against West Indies in the UAE. Since then, there has been no looking back. In the most recent ODI series against Sri Lanka, he hit two consecutive centuries in the first two matches in the UAE.
This took his tally of consecutive tons at the venue to a record number – 5. Also, he became the quickest to score 7 ODI tons – taking only 33 innings to do so. While his supremacy in the ODI format is there to be seen, Azam has failed to replicate the same in the Test format. In the Test series against Sri Lanka, he had scores of 28, 3, 8, and 0 across the four innings of the two Test matches played. To be hailed among the best in the world, Babar Azam would want to extend his dominion in the longest format of the game.
