IPL 10, Match 37, SRH v KKR - Sunrisers Hyderabad Player Ratings

The Kolkata Knight Riders were just a win away from making it to the playoffs when they locked horns with Sunrisers Hyderabad. The match was scheduled to be played at the home ground of SRH – Hyderabad. Coming in to the game, Sunrisers had a phenomenal track record at the home venue this season. They had won all their previous four matches at the venue. They surely wanted to continue their winning streak.

What perspired in the match was an absolute treat for the sea of orange gathered at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner led his team from the front with a thunderous ton to guide his team maintain the unbeaten streak at home. It was the KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir who had won the toss and opted to field first.

The KKR bowlers were taken for heavy toll as Warner smashed a belligerent ton in just 43 deliveries. He eventually perished after scoring 126 but had ensured he had done his job. The other players did not quite perform well enough to match his heroics. Kane Williamson contributed with a crucial 40 off 25 balls to ensure that SRH ended with 209/3 in their 20 overs.

In the run chase, Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey were the only standout performers for KKR in the run chase. Uthappa scored a brisk 53 off just 28 balls and Pandey scored 39 off 29 before getting dismissed. However, their efforts were just not enough as Sunrisers Hyderabad finished with another win to their name.

David Warner – 10/10

Sunrisers skipper David Warner showed what it means to lead from the front. Warner did not let the opposition bowlers settle on the day. He scored a thunderous 126 that came off just 59 balls. He stitched a 139-run stand with Shikhar Dhawan for the opening wicket. He hit 10 fours and 8 sixes in the game.

He started the onslaught in the powerplay. He had reached his fifty in just 20 balls by the beginning of the fifth over. He never let the run rate go down and SRH had 79 runs to their name in the powerplay. Warner notched up his ton in just 43 balls. Later in the game, he was spot on with his captaincy as well.

Shikhar Dhawan – 6/10

Shikhar Dhawan played the ideal supporting role for Warner in the match. He could have easily been carried away with the way Warner was hitting at the other end. Dhawan could have been tempted to match his opening partner but he chose not to. He showed great character to hang around at the other end.

Dhawan kept giving the strike to Warner and that served the cause of the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, in the process, it would have been better had he scored at a brisk rate too. He ended up being dismissed on 29 that came off 30 deliveries.

Kane Williamson – 7.5/10

When Warner was going great guns in the game, the score of 200 looked like a certainty. However, after his departure, the innings seemed to have taken a downward slope. The run flow came to a standstill and boundaries were hard to come by.

Williamson took some time to settle at the crease. Towards the end, he took the matter to his own hands and started hitting boundaries at will. Williamson plundered 40 runs in the 25 balls that he faced and hit 5 boundaries in his knock. He was run out on the final ball of the SRH innings.

Yuvraj Singh – 4/10

Yuvraj Singh did not have too much to do in this particular game. He came in to bat at number 4 in the 17th over. It is not that he did not get his opportunity to play a brief cameo. He actually did, but failed to leave an imprint. He found it tough hitting the boundary ropes in the game. Yuvraj ended up playing 6 deliveries in his innings and had as many runs scored on those deliveries. With the ball, he was not given any over to bowl on the day.

Moises Henriques – 2/10

Moises Henriques did not get his share of batting on the day. It was unlucky on his part to have been demoted to number 5 in the batting order. Henriques had started off the season on a great note while batting at number 3. However, all that remains to be the part of history now.

Henriques got his opportunity with the ball though. He bowled three overs in the innings but failed to pick up a wicket in the match. Also, his economy rate was not the best either. He gave 31 runs in his spell and looked unimpressive.

Naman Ojha – 4/10

Naman Ojha has not been getting his due of batting in the season. Time and again, it is the SRH top order that sees the bulk of the job done for the team. Hence, for a batsman like Ojha, who comes in to bat at number 6 or 7, there is very little left to do. In the match against Knight Riders as well, Naman Ojha did not get his chance to bat. In the field, he was decent with his glovework with no major blemish to his credit on the day.

Bipul Sharma – 2/10

Bipul Sharma had walked back to the lineup at the expense of Deepak Hooda. The track at Hyderabad is one of the typical Indian tracks that aids the spinners. Hence, the team management opted for an extra spinner in Bipul in place of Deepak Hooda. However, they did not make full use of the option available. Bipul was given just one over on the day that yielded 10 runs for the opposition.

Rashid Khan – 7.5/10

Rashid Khan has been the most impressive youngster in the tournament this year. However, as the matches have progressed, the opposition batsmen seemed to have decoded him. He was greeted with a six by Robin Uthappa on the very first ball that he bowled on the day.

However, he came back strong to beat Uthappa with three good deliveries after that. In the match, he bowled his complete quota of 4 overs and returned with figures of 1/38. He bagged the key wicket of Yusuf Pathan in the match. Also, he took 3 brilliant catches on the night to make a contribution on the field too.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 7/10

Bhuvneshwar Kumar continues to don the Purple Cap. He has been the wicket-taking bowler for his team this season as well. Bhuvi returned with 2 wickets to his name in this game as well. He bowled tight lines to ensure that the Sunrisers Hyderabad never lost control of the proceedings.

He dismissed the set batsman Manish Pandey on 39. It was a brilliant return catch off his own bowling that saw Pandey make the long walk back. Later, he dismissed Sheldon Jackson on 16 in the penultimate over. He finished with figures of 2/29 in his four overs.

Mohammad Siraj – 8/10

As the SRH skipper rightly reflected after the match, Mohammad Siraj is learning with every passing game. Siraj had started off his IPL career on the expensive note. However, as the matches have progressed, his performances have only got better and better.

In this particular game, Siraj returned with figures of 2/26 in his quota of 4 overs. He was the bowler who got the first breakthrough on the day. He had dismissed Sunil Narine on 1 in the 2nd over of the matc. Later, he bagged the key wicket of Robin Uthappa – the highest scorer from the opposition.

Siddharth Kaul – 8/10

Siddharth Kaul has been a revelation for the Sunrisers Hyderabad this season. He has been bowling consistent lines in the tournament and continued to do the same in this particular game as well. Kaul returned with bowling figures identical to his teammate Mohammad Siraj.

In the four overs that he bowled, he gave away 26 runs and bagged 2 wickets. He dismissed the KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir on 11 to give a severe blow to the opposition. Later, he dismissed Colin de Grandhomme on the final ball of the match to complete his double for the match.
