IPL has been an excellent platform for the players to showcase their impact on the world stage. It gives ample opportunities for the domestic players to showcase their potentials to the national selectors, as well as provides an opportunity to make a strong statement if you’re a veteran overseas player. Many want to compete in the tournament but very few manage to create the necessary impact in the tourney. Hashim Amla screamed a couple of golden centuries but ended up on the losing side on both occasions. But there are few players who did not score even half of what Warner did, but was instrumental in taking their side home. The likes of Chris Morris, Rishabh Pant, and Rahul Tripathi missed out narrowly on this list but here are the 5 players who stood out for their respective teams. Rashid Khan Rashid Khan. Rashid Khan provided the Sunrisers with the much-needed breakthroughs in the middle overs, breaking the backbone of the batting lineup by chipping in continuously in every match. He was also instrumental in stemming the flow of runs during the key moments in the game. Rashid Khan has already taken 17 wickets in the tournament at an exceptional economy of 6.6. He will only rise in the wickets tally as Moody & co. would hope that their team would play at least three games more. He lit up this season of IPL with his knock against the Gujarat Lions. The Queenslander has the highest average and strike rate in the tournament. In 5 matches, he has already amassed as many as 285 runs at an average of 71.25 and an explosive strike-rate of 186.27. Undoubtedly, Chris Lynn has always been an impact player whether he wears the sky blues of Brisbane Heat or purple and yellow of Kolkata Knight Riders. His knocks completely deflate the morale of the opposition and create a lasting impression. The Australian’s knock against RCB and SRH made cricket fans wish they could see more of the brutal power from Brisbane, coming from the backyard of Andrew Symonds and Matthew Hayden. Since then, Narine had a decent run in the Big Bash league as he smashed the bowlers all around in his own Trinidadian style. KKR coach Simon Katich hoped that Narine emulated his form in Melbourne to Eden Gardens and around. Sunil Narine did not disappoint a bit, as he single-handedly took many a game away from the opposition within the powerplays to compensate for the loss of Chris Lynn. He also broke the record for the fastest half-century in the tournament which was previously held by his teammate Chris Lynn. His impact has been such that Gambhir was forced to step down to the no.3 position so as to accommodate Narine and Lynn in the opening slot. Krunal Pandya continued his rich form with both bat and the ball as he scored vital 136 runs, playing the role of the finisher in the tournament.Krunal’s bowling has been better than last season as he picked up 10 wickets already in the tournament, with a few more matches to go. He was instantly considered as a replacement for Ravindra Jadeja. The most memorable knock he played has to be that against Gujarat Lions, where he held his nerves under pressure to take his side just inches away from the target which eventually ended in a tie. Krunal Pandya had to miss out on few of the matches during the later stages of the tournament due to a niggle. But he showed no signs of pressure from expectation as he was instrumental in many wins for the Supergiant side. Stokes has won three Man of the match awards this season of the IPL, which is a testimonial to the impact he has had in the tournament. He has amassed 316 runs in the tournament in 12 matches he played, which comprised of a brilliant century while in a chase. He also scored an important half-century in the initial stage of the tournament. Stokes was also an asset in the field, saving those doubles and boundaries, taking catches. Steve Smith could always rely on his bowling, as he picked up 12 wickets in the tournament.
