Former Indian cricketer and the current Delhi Daredevils skipper Zaheer Khan has been ruled out of the DD’s next fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The match against Sunrisers would be played on Tuesday (May 2) at the Feroze Shah Kotla in Delhi. Daredevils batsman Karun Nair will be leading the team in his absence. The first outing for Karun Nair as the captain of the franchise was not a fruitful one.

The Delhi camp went into the match against the Kings XI Punjab without the services of Zaheer Khan. They had a forgettable time in the match as Karun Nair had led the team in Zaheer’s absence. Batting first, DD were shot out for a paltry 67 in their innings in 17.1 overs. In the run chase, the KXIP batters had made a mockery of the DD bowling by chasing down the target with 10 wickets in hand.

Zaheer Khan might not have been the most prolific wicket taker in the season thus far but has surely been a mentoring force in the Delhi lineup. In the 7 matches that Zaheer has played in the tournament thus far, he has accounted 7 dismissals with a three-wicket haul to his name as well. Recently, the spokesperson of the Delhi franchise confirmed the news of Zaheer’s ruling out from the Tuesday clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

“He will be monitored as we go along. Karun Nair will continue to be the stand in captain for tomorrow’s game,” the Delhi Daredevils spokesperson confirmed as per the news in Sportstarlive.com.

Zaheer had suffered a hamstring strain on the field during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Kolkata in the match 32 of the tournament. Talking about the team’s form, the Daredevils languish at the bottom of the points table with only 2 wins to their name in 8 appearances.

They need to win all their remaining matches this season to ensure that they qualify for the playoffs.
