Delhi Daredevils though didn’t have a lot of options but had quality choices among the overseas batsmen. They started the season with the big hitter Colin Munro but when he failed twice the DD team management decided to make the change. He was dismissed by Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the first match for 4 and bagged a duck in the next. That’s when Delhi turned to England opener Jason Roy.

In his debut match for the franchise, he played a thunderous knock. He stood there, saw the innings through, lost partners, sustained the pressure, backed himself and in the end scored the winning runs against Mumbai Indians to remain unbeaten on 91 as Daredevils secured their maiden win this season.

Though Munro’s class and abilities cannot be questioned, traditionally big hitters from that part of the world haven’t fared really well in the IPL and Englishmen, on the other hand, have enjoyed great success. That said it will be interesting to see if Roy can replicate this knock in the next few games and win his team crucial matches.
