IPL 2018: 5 players who can replace Billy Stanlake in SRH squad
SRH will be surely thinking about one of these players to replace the Australian fast bowler.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffered a huge blow after Billy Stanlake was ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He fractured the little finger of his right hand and had picked 5 wickets in 4 matches before sustaining the injury. They had started the tournament with a bang with three victories after the same number of matches but have faded away since then. However, they would be wanting a decent replacement now for Stanlake who was excellent for them so far this year.
Suddenly the team is suffering with a number of injuries as Bhuvneshwar Kumar has sat out for two matches due to his back issues. Even Shikhar Dhawan was hit on the elbow and was injured a few days ago. Their squad possesses a plethora of Indian fast bowlers but they lack a quality overseas fast bowler and would be eyeing to bag the services of someone soon.
Here we bring you the 5 possible replacements of Stanlake:
1. Junior Dala
Junior Dala has been on the radar of everyone ever since he made his international earlier this year against India in the shortest format of the game. His pace had troubled the batsman like Rohit Sharma and went on to scalp him in all the three T20 Internationals. Though he is expensive most of the times, Dala is a genuine wicket-taking option and looks an able replacement for the player like Stanlake in the SRH squad. As far as his T20 career is concerned, the 28-year-old has picked 49 wickets in 52 matches at an economy rate of 8.21.
2. Jhye Richardson
Jhye Richardson is another exciting prospect from Australia who can be a like-for-like replacement for the Orange Army. The 21-year-old had made it to the Australian Test squad which toured South Africa recently on the basis of his pace itself. The raw pace of youngster could be tried out who can bowl close to 150 kph at times which keep the batsman at bay all the time. Jhye has so far played only 19 T20s in his career and has made 20 batsmen his bunny and he will only get better after playing more cricket.
3. Dane Paterson
Dane Paterson, the South African fast bowler, is a proven performer in the shortest format of the game. He endured a successful T20 tournament at domestic level last season. He has the experience of playing in the 61 T20s and has conceded 7.29 runs per over while picking 62 wickets. Paterson also has 3 four-wicket hauls to his name which shows he is a clever bowler and thrives under different circumstances. It will be interesting to see if SRH management approaches him for the remainder of the season.
4. Matt Henry
Matt Henry from New Zealand can also still make it to the cash-rich league. Much like the aforementioned players, he had also gone unsold in the auction earlier this year. Henry is an experienced player who has played a fair amount of international cricket as well and has featured for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) before in the tournament. The 26-year-old has played 76 matches in this format so far and has gone on to fox the batsmen 70 times. He strikes after 20.8 deliveries which means he has picked a wicket in every match and is not a bad option for SRH.
5. Tymal Mills
The Millionaire of the last year is surprisingly still not playing the IPL despite injuries to so many fast bowlers. Tymal Mills didn’t justify the price tag attached to him while playing for RCB last year and found no bids in the auction this year. The bowler himself had hoped that some team would approach him mid-season but so far he is waiting. May be SRH can approach given his experience of playing in the league and he also fared decently in the PSL and BBL earlier this year. But he hasn’t been at his best of late which has kept him on the sidelines so far.
