IPL 2018: 5 Players Sunrisers Hyderabad should release after the season

David Warner’s absence, according to many experts reckoned that was enough to slaughter Sunrisers Hyderabad’s chances of winning the trophy. But as it turned out, stand-in skipper Kane Williamson‘s outrageous performance to go with some spectacular bowling saw them finish on top of the table. As a team, they have collaborated brilliantly together and no wonder why people are touting them to win the title for the second time. Kane Williamson has been leading the side from the front, scoring a whopping 661 runs this season. He has already scored 8 fifties, eyeing an all-time record of most fifties in a season, previously set by David Warner in 2016 (9 fifties). They faced the Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier 1 for a place in the final but failed to win. Whilst this season has been decent for the Sunrisers, they will also be considering some chopping and changes for the next season already. Here are five players who might get released going into the 2019 season. 1. Manish Pandey Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Manish Pandey. (Photo by IANS) One of the biggest disappointments of the season, Manish Pandey has failed to live up to the expectations and the price tag. With just three scores of fifty or more, the fans have been disappointed with his performance this season. However, they might release him, but they will also consider using an RTM for him. Over the years, he has been brilliant for the Kolkata Knight Riders, but he has failed to replicate his heroics for the Orange Army. The Sunrisers looked pale in the middle order over the years and they expected him to make the difference after roping him in the 2018 IPL auction. He cost the Sunrisers Rs. 11 Crore and his performance certainly has not been up to that mark. Maybe the extent of the price has exerted more pressure on him. If they send him back to the auction table, maybe they can earn his services for a much lesser price. 2. Alex Hales Sunrisers Hyderabad Alex Hales in action. (Photo by IANS) Alex Hales was roped into the side after the Sunrisers Hyderabad lost their most important player, David Warner. They needed an explosive opener at the top of the order and they saw the Englishman as a like-for-like replacement for the 2015 and 2017 Orange Cap winner. Hales registered a couple of 45s and another quickfire start against RCB. His mediocre might’ve cost them big time as well, as they lost some very tight games to the Royal Challengers and the Kolkata Knight Riders. Hales has not done anything which caught the attention of fans and at the same time, has not performed very badly. He’s highly likely to be sent back to the auction considering Warner’s suspension will end in March 2019 and will be available for the IPL in April. 3. Chris Jordan Chris Jordan. (Photo Source: Instagram) Chris Jordan was roped into the side last season and as many expected, he didn’t get to represent the side on a lot of occasions. A talented fast bowler who can also play some big shots, Jordan played just two games for the Sunrisers in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. In the one match he played this season, Chris Gayle clobbered a hundred and toyed with the Sunrisers bowlers. Not many expected Jordan to get a lot of games with Carlos Brathwaite and Shakib Al Hasan in the side, which is exactly what happened. He’s a talented cricketer and would be expecting to play more games rather than warming the bench the whole tournament. There’s great demand for all-rounders like him and given he performs well in the International circuit in the coming months, he will be in contention to leave the side. 4. Sachin Baby Sachin Baby. (Photo Source: Instagram) Kerala’s captain in the Ranji circuit, Sachin Baby has been a part of the IPL for a long time now. But for the first time in his career probably, he has failed to get into the XI even for a single game. He has done well previously for the Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers and would be hoping to get more matches. His IPL career statistics don’t sound very promising, but the 29-year-old can be a good addition in the middle order for any side. The Sunrisers have kept him as a back up for Manish Pandey, but it seems highly unlikely for the management to drop him at this juncture. It’s highly likely that he might prefer to leave the side and try getting himself into another team where he can get more games to prove his worth with the bat. But for that to happen, he should perform well in the domestic season so that his stock will still have good value in the Auction next season. 5. Bipul Sharma Bipul Sharma. (Photo Source: Twitter) Bipul Sharma was one of the most important players in the Sunrisers side which won the trophy in 2016. His canny left-arm spin provided them with some crucial wickets throughout the tournament and is also a good striker of the cherry with the willow in hand. The 34-year-old has played 33 IPL games and has picked up 17 wickets at an economy of 8.06. These aren’t bad statistics and at the same time, not completely impressive. Just like some other players like Chris Jordan and Sachin Baby, the team composition is not allowing him to enter the XI. Other spinners like Rashid Khan and Shakib Al Hasan are doing a fantastic job. Shakib is a more experienced and an International superstar, which keeps him in the side ahead of Bipul. Hence, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him go into the auction.
