IPL 2018: Alex Hales ecstatic after SRH selection
Hales was bought for his base price of INR 1 crore.
Alex Hales has been a prolific run scorer for England, especially in the limited-overs format where he has racked up runs in double quick time. Hales recently played for the Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) where he scored 87 runs in four games. Recently, he has been roped in by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He entered the auction with a base price of INR 1 crore, however, he found no bidders. Nevertheless, following David Warner’s suspension owing to the ball-tampering fiasco, Hales has been drafted in from the Registered and Available Player Pool (RAPP) list. SRH won’t be having the services of Warner at the top of the order and hence the inclusion of the English batsman makes sense.
Hales had to embrace disappointment during the auction, however, he was jubilated after the news of his selection broke out. Subsequently, he took to Twitter and expressed his delight. He wrote, “Very excited to be part of @SunRisers for this years IPL! Can’t wait to get out there and get started!”

Recent troubles for Sunrisers
David Warner has been one of the fulcrums of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise. He has also captained the side during their victorious campaign in the 2015 edition of the tournament. He also was the leading run scorer (the Orange Cap holder) in 2015 and 2017. The Australian cricketer has recently been handed a suspension of one year after he was found guilty of being involved in Cameron Bancroft’s attempt to change the condition of the ball.
Meanwhile, they have declared Kane Williamson as the skipper for this season. The Black Cap has been a part of the franchise for the last few seasons, however, couldn’t get many chances. Meanwhile, Alex Hales will be faced with the daunting task of filling the massive shoes of Warner.
