Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad had retained the likes of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine during the player retention event. They went on to build the squad around them later in the auction and ended up with only 19 players in the squad. Russell has been the key player for them over the years and they are banking on him to come good this time around as well. However, ahead of the tournament, the Caribbean all-rounder has revealed some of the key insights about his new album.

Russell is a perfect T20 player which every captain wants in his team. KKR have used him very carefully and despite him not being available last season, they decided to retain him which left everyone perplexed. The all-rounder will be under pressure to repay the faith shown on him by the franchise. It is also important for KKR that Russell stays fit throughout the season as he is coming on the back of injury he sustained during Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Focus back on cricket

The whole available squad attended the press conference arranged by HMD Global and KKR on Sunday at ITC Sonar in Kolkata. Andre Russell interestingly revealed a few key insights about his new album and also cleared that he will be focussing back on cricket over the next 45 days.

“No, not for IPL. I was too busy focusing on getting back into cricket. So, I kind of gave it a break. I have a new single coming out with Shahrukh Khan, some planned for the future. But at the end of the day, Cricket comes first and music is all about fun. I think I have something to offer towards the music world, but everything takes time, so working on it,” he said when asked if he is planning to release any new album during the IPL.

There was also a candid question thrown at him asking about the lead actor he would pick if he would make a music video for KKR. “Not because he’s standing right beside, but, Robin Uthappa, he’d be in the music video for sure. But I have a few good dancers in the team, this guy (Kuldeep Yadav) can move as well, but he’s very shy. So I’d have to give him a key role to play in the music video, along with Venky (Venky Mysore),” Russell said with a smile on his face.
