IPL 2018 Auction: 5 BBL players who will go big

With the auction for the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) all set to be conducted on the 27th, 28th of January and hardly a week away, franchises are on the lookout for effective T20 performers in different leagues being conducted around the world. With the Big Bash in Australia underway, there will be great focus by the franchises on the performances of the players down under in one of the most competitive and exciting tournaments ever. Ben Dunk, Nic Maddinson, Sean Abbott and Dan Christian are some examples of cricketers who earned a ticket to the IPL in the past on the back of jaw-dropping performances in the BBL. Let’s take a look at 5 top performers this season who will be in great demand in the upcoming auction: 1. D’Arcy Short D’arcy Short of the Hobart Hurricanes bats. Short’s aggressive swash-buckling performances with the bat and fearless attitude will surely draw in a lot of attention from the likes of Kings XI Punjab who have been largely reliant on the likes of Glenn Maxwell and David Miller in recent editions of the IPL. The 27-year-old kicked off his T20 debut on a high note smashing 8 boundaries and 3 hits into the stands against the Sydney Sixers in December 2016 which indicates the temperament of the batsman. With 504 runs in 9 matches at an impressive average of 63 in this edition of the BBL, Short will be a sure-shot target for the franchises out there. 2. However, Carey has been no less impressive this BBL for the Adelaide Strikers with the willow and also extremely efficient with the gloves. The Kolkata Knight Riders will be eager to snap up an effective overseas batsman like Carey in case they fail to sign Chris Lynn in the auction considering his prowess with the willow and clean wicket-keeping behind the stumps which was something they missed out on last season. 3. With 309 runs in 9 matches at an average of 38.62, Watson has been the Thunder’s talisman this season with his consistent performances. A franchise like the Delhi Daredevils have lacked experienced overseas performers who can be expected to deliver when needed and maybe on the lookout for someone like Watson this season. 4. Andrew Tye Andrew Tye. His variations, immense maturity, ability to bowl yorkers as and when necessary makes him a lethal prospect for any side out there. The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been on the scout for reliable overseas bowlers who can get the job done when needed over the years which is evident from their unsuccessful 12 crore investment in Tymal Mills last season. Someone like Tye can be a worthy prospect to invest in. 5. Jofra Archer Jofra Archer of the Hurricanes. His bowling performances under pressure and maturity beyond the years has earned praise from none other than South African legendary pace bowler Dale Steyn. Archer can clock speeds of 140-145 kmph/hour on a consistent basis while being economical at the same time which makes him an effective all-around prospect for the upcoming season of the IPL. Archer can be an effective addition for a team like Mumbai Indians which wants to sign a replacement for veteran pace-bowler Lasith Malinga.
