IPL 2018: Chennai Super Kings appoint their captain, vice-captain for the season
Chennai Super Kings were clear in their stance to retain three of their biggest superstars over the years.
The Chennai Super Kings are all set to make a comeback to the Indian Premier League (IPL) roster this year. The Men in Yellow were out of action in the previous two instalments of the tournament. CSK were serving their two-year suspension period along with the other franchise Rajasthan Royals. Now, both RR and CSK are back to light up the IPL this season.
In the recent IPL retentions, Chennai Super Kings were clear in their stance to retain three of their biggest superstars over the years. They retained the services of former Indian captain MS Dhoni. Dhoni has led the CSK team in the first eight editions of the tournament and has been the most successful captain in the IPL history. Along with Dhoni, CSK also retained veteran southpaw Suresh Raina.
Raina, much like Dhoni, has been an integral part of the Chennai roster ever since the first edition of the tournament. The third retention was Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja moved to Chennai Super Kings after a couple of very successful outings for the Rajasthan Royals.
Now, as per the recent developments, the Chennai camp has already zeroed in on the captain and vice-captain of the side. Suresh Raina himself has confirmed the news recently. As per the reports, MS Dhoni is set to lead CSK in IPL 2018 and Suresh Raina has been named as his deputy.
“MS Dhoni is going to be the captain, I’m going to be the vice-captain, Jadeja is also going to be there. Then there are certain players in the auction. We all will be having a meeting soon and then decide what planning we will be having for the auction,” Suresh Raina told India Today in an exclusive interview.
MSD’s recent past
It is worth noting that MS Dhoni has not led any competitive side in a competitivee fixture for almost a year now. The last time he led a team was in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017. Dhoni had captained the Jharkhand team in the tournament. It will be interesting how he fares up as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2018.
