IPL 2018: Did spectators really hurl shoes at Faf du Plessis and Jadeja? Here's the truth

Though the homecoming of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after 1065 days was extremely successful the game was marred by the controversy throughout. Ahead of the game, the political parties and groups in Chennai had warned the organisers to shift or postpone the Indian Premier League (IPL) fixtures in the city following the Cauvery Row. They had also indicated that their protest will extend in the Stadium during the match as well. However, they crossed their lines when shoes hurled from the stands which eventually ended up near Faf du Plessis. The atmosphere in Chennai ahead of CSK’s opening encounter at the Chepauk was heated as the protester had started to beat the people approaching towards the main gate of the Stadium. Some members of the political parties also tried to enter the venue as the police personnel stopped them from proceeding and were right away taken under the remand by Chennai police. Unwanted scenes on the ground Amidst all the security, few people managed to enter the ground who were aiming to disrupt the game. The video of the shoes being thrown near Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja is going viral courtesy the official Instagram page of Amar Ujala. It could be clearly seen in the video that shoes were hurled at the ground when Du Plessis was carrying drinks at the long on near the boundary. Even one of the shoes fell near Jadeja as both the cricketers picked those up and threw it out of the ground. However, the police straightaway arrested three people for such rubbish and shameful actions. While the Cauvery issue is certainly highly sensitive and close to the hearts of the people of Chennai, it is completely unfair to include cricket in the matter. Moreover, targeting to disrupt the matches is not the solution as such actions are not going to solve any problems they are facing. As of now, the situation seems to be under control but things might worse in future as the Men in Yellow will play their next match in the city on April 20 against Rajasthan Royals.
