IPL 2018: DJ Bravo congratulates 'brother' Chris Gayle on yet another IPL century
The 38-year old carried his impressive form into another match.
True to its nature, the Indian Premier League once again turned the tables on the general assumptions and gave the cricket fanatics what they expect from the tournament – the unexpected. Who could have thought that a batsman who was rejected time and again in this year’s auctions, only to be picked up by Kings XI Punjab in the last rounds, would slam the first century of IPL 2018? But that is exactly what happened.
In front of a jam-packed home crowd in Mohali on Thursday, Chris Gayle assaulted the Sunrisers bowlers in his trademark flamboyance and stormed his way to his sixth IPL century from just 58 balls. If you add his previous five to the list, that makes the Jamaican the record-holder of a maximum number of IPL hundreds.
After KXIP won the match by 15 runs, Gayle’s fellow Windies cricketer Dwayne Bravo took to his Instagram account to congratulate the player of the match. He posted a short video clip of the match, in which Gayle takes a single off Kaul to complete his hundredth run, followed by his teammates and fans celebrating the moment.
Bravo did not leave out recording Gayle’s unique celebratory style of cradling his bat like a child, which he did in his last match against the Chennai Super Kings as well. At this rate, this might become the new signature step for this season.
Yuvraj Singh is there in the clip as well, doing what Bravo calls the ‘celebration dance’ in his post. Co-owner Preity Zinta is also visibly exhilarated.
The video plays DJ Bravo’s latest song ‘Run the World’ in the background.
After being picked up in the auctions like an afterthought, and then excluded from the playing XI in the first two matches, Gayle has once again proved his importance in the IPL, even though he thinks he has nothing to prove to anyone.
“Just here to put some respect on the name,” said the big man with a smile in the post-match presentation, after receiving his Player of the Match cheque.
