IPL 2018: Glenn Maxwell has a few words to say after being picked by Delhi Daredevils

KXIP perhaps did not retain Maxwell due to a bit of a fall out between him and mentor Virender Sehwag when the latter had criticized him heavily.

In the IPL auction underway, one of the few players that attracted a bidding war was Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. He was bought by Delhi Daredevils for a whopping 9 crores, it was more than expected but with Ricky Ponting as the coach around, it wasn’t that big a shocker since he is known to have a liking for Maxwell.

However, despite the bidding war, King XI Punjab didn’t think it was necessary to use RTM for him. It may perhaps be due to a bit of a fall out between him and mentor Virender Sehwag when the latter had criticized him heavily. The all-rounder took to Twitter to express his excitement over the same and said, “Thank you to the @lionsdenkxip for the last 4 years! The opportunities you provided for me have helped mould me into the player and person I am today. I’m extremely excited to be able to return to the place where I started my IPL career! Cant wait @DelhiDaredevils! #IPL2018.”

This has been an interesting few days for the all-rounder considering he was out of the Australia limited overs side too, after being left out of the Ashes. Glenn Maxwell is in the mix to return to Australia’s one-day international XI on Sunday after Aaron Finch was officially ruled out with a hamstring complaint.

Maxwell’s blistering 84 off 47 balls against Sydney Sixers in the BBL on Tuesday may have forced the selectors to adjust their thinking, also helping the Big Show’s case in the IPL Auctions. With Delhi Daredevils, however, expect better utilization of the player’s all-round skills and even more impactful performances on display.

So far, Delhi have an explosive foreign contingent including the likes of Colin Munro, Chris Morris, Jason Roy and Glenn Maxwell. They have the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Gautam Gambhir in the Indian batting department.
