“Yatra Pratibha Avsara Prapnotihi” meaning ‘Where talent meets opportunity’ was the major objective of the Indian Premier League when it was founded. The BCCI wanted IPL to be a stage where youngsters can exhibit their talent. These golden words in Sanskrit are beautifully embedded on the IPL trophy in the ‘Devanagari script’.

Although there were many Indian and foreign players who emerged from this platform, the tagline seems to be forgotten in the recent times. The cash-rich league evolved into a much bigger stage than what it was destined to be. It is much more than a cricketing platform and has taken the whole world by a storm. Even though a few youngsters are picked in the IPL, they hardly get a chance to feature in the playing eleven.

All the teams compete very hard to win the glorious title. In the process, the motto of the IPL is ignored. It is such a prestigious league that all the blame can’t be put on the franchises alone.

However, in the mega-auction this year, there were a few franchises that followed the young cricketers keenly. They spent some big bids on them which is very encouraging. Few of them are the Under-19 players who are representing India at the World Cup in New Zealand. The U19 team is performing brilliantly and have reached the semi-finals. Five U19 players were picked in the auction today and they will already be keen to do well for their franchises.

Here is the list of U19 players sold at the IPL auction 2018:

1. Kamlesh Nagarkoti– KKR | INR 3.2 crores | Fast Bowler

Young Kamlesh took the whole world by surprise with his ability to ball fast. Kamlesh regularly hits the 145kmph-mark and sometimes clocks up speeds over this. He grabbed the eyeballs of many with his impressive performances at the World Cup.

Also, many expected him to get a good bid at the auction and that is exactly what happened. KKR picked him for a whopping INR 3.2 crore which is 16 times his base price. Also, he picked seven wickets in the tournament so far.

2. Shivam Mavi- KKR | INR 3 Crores | Fast Bowler

Just like Kamlesh, the 19-year-old came into the limelight as he bowls at an express pace. He consistently crosses the 140-mark. The UP pacer also has eight scalps to his name in the four games that he played. He also has a beautiful outswinger. He was also sold to the KKR at INR 3 crores which is 15 times his base price.

3. Shubman Gill– KKR | INR 1.80 Crores | Batsman

KKR bought the highest number of U19 players with Shubman Gill being their third pick. Gill has entered the record books scoring three consecutive half-centuries at the U19 WC. He is all set to break the 12-year-old record if he scores another in the semifinals against Pakistan.

He has been a very consistent performer scoring half-centuries every single time he came out to bat. Gill scored 239 runs in three innings and is doing a phenomenal job. He was picked at INR 1.80 crores, 9 nines his base price.

4) Prithvi Shaw- DD | INR 1.20 Crores | Batsman

The Indian U-19 captain is well-known to one and all. He set the stage on fire in the Ranji Trophy this year and already has five first-class centuries to his name. Shaw carried his good form into the World Cup and scored 191 runs in the three innings he played thus far. He has also been impressive as the captain. He was sold to DD at INR 1.20 crores, 6 times his base price.

5) Anukul Sudhakar Roy- MI | INR 20 Lakhs | All-Rounder

This lad from Jharkhand came into limelight for his exploits with the ball. Although he didn’t get much of an opportunity with the bat, he has been dangerous with the ball. He bowls some tight lines and lengths and often hits the good areas. He picked 11 wickets in four matches so far making him one of the leading wicket-takers. However, he was only sold at his base price to the Mumbai Indians.
