The Mumbai Indians are finally off the mark and that comes as a big threat to all other sides in the IPL 2018. Traditionally known as the latebloomers of the tournament, the MI camp have finally notched up their first win of the season. They beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their fourth game of the season by 46 runs. With the first win on the board, the team would believe, it is about time that they start blooming even more.

Talking about the game, the stage was all set at the iconic Wankhede Stadium for the third home game of the season for the Mumbai Indians. While the hosts were low on confidence, the visitors were not in top shape either. Amidst this backdrop, two desperate skippers walked out for the toss. It was the visiting skipper Virat Kohli who won the toss and opted to bowl first. Umesh Yadav’s dual strike on the first two balls of the match had the hosts reeling at 0/2.

Evin Lewis and Rohit Sharma then put on 108 runs for the third wicket to keep the innings intact. Lewis perished soon after scoring his fifty but Rohit continued along to eventually score 94 in the game. His efforts saw MI post 213/6 on the board. In the run chase, the RCB batting lineup crashed like ten pins, yet again. Barring skipper Kohli, no batsman showed resilience at the crease. Kohli was left stranded at 92 with RCB putting on 167/8 in their stipulated 20 overs. MI won by 46 runs.

Here are the Mumbai Indians player ratings for the match:

Suryakumar Yadav – 2/10

Suryakumar Yadav continued to bat in the opening slot in the game. In the previous game, the experiment to open with him had worked for the MI camp. However, on the day, this move failed big time. A brilliant delivery from Umesh Yadav saw Suryakumar Yadav bagging a golden duck. Later in the game, Surya made a couple of good saves in the field and took the catch to dismiss Washington Sundar.

Evin Lewis – 8/10

The hard hitting Windies batter finally came good for the Mumbai Indians. Lewis justified the tag of being a hitter in the match. He smashed a brilliant 65 off 42 deliveries embellished with 6 fours and 5 sixes. He added a very crucial 108-run stand with Rohit Sharma in the match.

Ishan Kishan – 2/10

Ishan Kishan had a rough day at the office. He ended up injuring his eye in the RCB innings with a throw hitting him badly. Earlier in the game, he had bagged a golden duck. Also, he failed to get an easy stumping done in the match. He, however, covered up well with another stumping in the game.

Rohit Sharma – 9/10

The Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma was absolutely phenomenal in the game. He had arrived at the crease with the MI scorecard reading 0/2. He stitched a handy partnership with Evin Lewis to get going. After Lewis’ dismissal, Rohit paraded along to push the MI total over the 200-mark. He scored 94 off 52 deliveries with 10 fours and five sixes to his name on the day.

Krunal Pandya – 8.5/10

Krunal Pandya did not have a very good time with the bat on the day. But the all-rounder managed to cover up for it with three good wickets in the game. He ran through the RCB middle order to dismiss Mandeep Singh, Corey Anderson, and Washington Sundar. He finished with figures of 3/28 in his four overs.

Kieron Pollard – 1/10

The services of Kieron Pollard were not needed with the ball on the day. Earlier in the game, he arrived at the crease to bat in the death overs. Much against all expectations, he failed to deliver the big shots. He perished after scoring just 5 runs.

Hardik Pandya – 7/10

Hardik Pandya played a very handy cameo in the match. He faced just 5 deliveries and remained unbeaten on 17 with a four and two sixes to his name. Also, he bowled just one over in the match and conceded four runs in it. On the field, he was electrifying as ever.

Mayank Markande – 7.5/10

Mayank Markande’s impressive run in the tournament continued yet again. The young leggie returned with figures of 1/25 in his quota of four overs. Even the likes of Virat Kohli showed respect to him and did not take the long handle whilst he was bowling. He got the wicket of Sarfaraz Khan in the match.

Mitch McClenaghan – 8/10

Mitch McClenaghan played a very big role in the match. The RCB camp had got off to a flying start. It was McClenaghan’s twin strike in the fifth over of the game that brought Mumbai Indians in the commanding position. McClenaghan got the two big wickets of Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers in his spell of three overs that yielded 24 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah – 7/10

Jasprit Bumrah had a decent time with the ball in the match. Bumrah accounted for the wickets of the RCB tailenders. He returned with figures of 2/28 in the game. He seems to be picking up some good pace and precision as the tournament is progressing.

Mustafizur Rahman – 1/10

While most of the Mumbai Indians players had a good outing on the day, Mustafizur Rahman had a terrible time with the ball. He leaked runs up front with the new ball. He was taken away for as many as 55 runs in the four overs that he bowled on the day.
