IPL 2018, Match 23, MI vs SRH - Sunrisers Hyderabad Player Ratings

The defending champions Mumbai Indians slumped to their fifth defeat in six matches played this season in the IPL. In their most recent encounter, they ended up losing to the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a low scoring game in Mumbai. They were asked to chase down the total of 118 – a total that was underpar from all standards of the Wankhede track. Despite the small total, the defending champions ended up making a mockery of the run chase.

They bundled out for a paltry 87 in the run chase to hand over a 31 run win to the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Barring Suryakumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya, no batsman from the MI lineup managed to score in double digits. Yadav’s 34 kept the hosts in the hunt for a brief while but a triple strike from Siddarth Kaul in the middle overs derailed the run chase big time.

Earlier in the game, the Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma had won the toss and had opted to bowl first. He was delighted to see Mitch McClenaghan strike twice in the second over of the innings. A couple of more wickets fell in the powerplay and the Sunrisers Hyderabad were in dire straits. Skipper Kane Williamson’s 29 and Yusuf Pathan’s 29 helped the visitors post 118 runs on the board before getting bundled out in the 19th over.

The hosts were expected to chase it down with ease. But eventually, the SRH bowlers scripted the win for their side by defending such a low score successfully.

Shikhar Dhawan – 3/10

Shikhar Dhawan had a troubled stay at the crease on the day. He was dismissed in the second over of the game by Mitch McClenaghan. He could only score 5 in 6 deliveries before heading back to the pavilion. Later in the game, he contributed to the team’s cause by taking two valuable catches.

Kane Williamson – 7/10

The track at Wankhede turned out to play in an unusual manner on the day. In the low scoring game, finding the feet at the crease looked like a tough ask. But Kane Williamson looked very good during his stay at the wicket. He scored 29 off 21 deliveries with five fours to his name on the day. Also, he was exceptional with his bowling changes in the game that did not allow the Mumbai Indians to settle down in the run chase.

Wriddhiman Saha – 1/10

Wriddhiman Saha’s poor run with the bat continued in this particular game as well. Saha perished for a duck after his arrival at the crease in the second over. He did not have a big role to play with the gloves too and had an ordinary time in the match.

Manish Pandey – 3/10

Much like Wriddhiman Saha, another Indian cricketer who has largely underperformed for the Sunrisers Hyderabad this season is Manish Pandey. In this game, Pandey got off to a promising start with three boundaries to his name but ended up getting dismissed on 16. On the field, he was a live wire and pocketed a catch to dismiss Evin Lewis.

Shakib Al Hasan – 6/10

Shakib Al Hasan was unlucky to get out cheaply in the game. He was run out in the fifth over of the SRH innings. The veteran Bangladeshi player came good in the second half of the match with the ball. He bowled3 overs to give away just 16 runs and dismissed the main man of the opposition team, Rohit Sharma.

Yusuf Pathan – 7/10

Yusuf Pathan played a very big role in ensuring that the Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a respectable total on the board. Pathan ran out of partners at the other end and hence, had to do the bulk of the scoring in the fag end of the innings. He did well for his 33-ball 29 with a couple of fours and a six to his name.

Mohammad Nabi – 6/10

Mohammad Nabi got his first chance to play in the season today. The Afghanistani veteran bowled in the powerplays and did a fair job with the ball. He got the wicket of Ishan Kishan early on in the innings. In the three overs that he bowled, he gave away 23 runs. Earlier in the match, he had scored 14 runs with the bat as well.

Rashid Khan – 9/10

Rashid Khan proved his worth yet again with the ball. He showed why he is revered as one of the finest bowlers in the shortest format of the game. He was introduced fairly late in the match but ended up playing a big role. He choked the run flow big time to get the game in SRH’s corner. He dismissed KRunal Pandya and Kieron Pollard on the day. In the four overs that he bowled, he gave away just 11 runs.

Siddarth Kaul – 8.5/10

Siddarth Kaul finished the game as the pick of the Sunrisers bowlers on the day. He returned with figures of 3/23 in his quota of four overs. Kaul bowled with very good precision on the day after being targeted in his early overs by Krunal Pandya. He ran through the MI tail to wrap up things in a hurry for his team.

Sandeep Sharma – 8.5/10

Sandeep Sharma featured in his second match of the season for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He continued to perform well with the ball. His immaculate lines with the new ball kept things tight up front. He dismissed the dangerous Evin Lewis in his second over. Eventually, he returned with figures of 1/9 in the three overs that he bowled in the match.

Basil Thampi –  8.5/10

Basil Thampi made his debut for the Sunrisers team in the IPL in this particular match. Thampi got his chance to bowl in the fag end of the innings. He only bowled 10 deliveries in the match but showed quite some skills with the ball. He gave away only 4 runs and accounted for the wickets of Suryakumar Yadav and Mustafizur Rahman.
