IPL 2018: Match 41, KKR vs MI – Most Valuable and Liable Player of the game
Ishan Kishan's counter-attack changed the course of the game towards the Mumbai Indians.
Mumbai Indians once again showed their dominance over the Knight Riders who can be called MI’s bunnies hereon just for the way they performed at home. Ishan Kishan’s 17-ball fifty played a crucial role in lifting Mumbai’s total to a record 210/6. The home side never looked like they will be able to chase the mammoth total getting off with a wicket in the very first over. They were eventually bowled out for 108 in 19 overs registering their biggest defeat in terms of runs in the IPL.
Ishan Kishan has had a mixed season so far with a couple of good knocks and as many as three ducks. He didn’t get to bat in a couple of matches with the experienced batsmen taking the top order spots. However, MI’s strategy of using the young player to counter the spinners turned out to be a master-stroke. Kishan smashed six sixes and five fours in his 21-ball 62 to push the scoring rate into the sky. He was the Most Valuable Player of the match as per the CricTracker’s Player Value algorithm as he earned a value of 75.5 lakhs.
Kolkata Knight Riders‘ skipper Dinesh Karthik was the Liable Player of the match as he scored just five runs. Kuldeep Yadav faced the wrath of Kishan as he was hit for four consecutive sixes in an over. However, he escaped from becoming the liability for his team as he scored a couple of runs with the bat. Piyush Chawla might have conceded 22 runs in the 20th over of MI’s innings but he was the Most Valuable Player of the match for KKR. His 3-wicket haul and 11 runs with the bat were valued at 71 lakhs just behind Kishan’s value.
It was a collective effort from the Mumbai Indians as all the six bowlers Rohit Sharma used returned with wickets. All their batsmen made contributions to help the team post 210 runs on the board which is the highest ever IPL total at the Eden Gardens. JP Duminy had the lowest impact on the scoreboard for MI as he didn’t get a chance to bat or bowl. His match contribution was restricted to just a catch and a runout.
