IPL 2018: MS Dhoni wasn't pleased with Marais Erasmus' decision
The game was eventually won by the Royals thanks to Jos Buttler.
MS Dhoni is not known to express himself on the cricket field and keeps his head calm and cool while leading the side. Many are still amazed to see him so calm-headed even when the game goes down to the wire. But he was in a completely contrasting mood on Friday during the game against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. However, in one such instance, he was left fuming after the wrong decision from the umpire denied his team an extra run.
Such decisions could prove costly as the game eventually went down the wire and the hosts Rajasthan Royals (RR) clinched the thriller off the penultimate delivery of the last over. Dhoni’s problems were compounded in the second innings when the fielders were not responding properly and the bowlers were not bowling to the field. He was clearly unhappy with his teammates and also lashed out at the bowling attack at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Wide not given
The incident happened in the 19th over of the first innings when the duo of MS Dhoni and Sam Billings were looking to add some quick runs. Jofra Archer was bowling the fourth delivery to the former and the short ball went over the head of the batsmen. In an immediate reaction, Dhoni looked at the leg-umpire Marais Erasmus as he expected the ball to be called wide. But it was called the first bouncer which didn’t impress the skipper of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at all.
The replays confirmed that the ball clearly went over the head of Dhoni and he was within rights to inquire about the decision with the umpire. The extra run was denied to the visitors and there was a confused look on Mahi’s face as well. In the end, CSK went on to post a total of 176 runs after their 20 overs which were not enough courtesy of the heroics from Jos Buttler.
