IPL 2018: The new introductions by Star India for the tournament
Star Sports have replaced Sony as the broadcaster of the Indian Premier League
Star India bagged the broadcasting rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year for a whopping 16347 crores. The change in broadcasters also meant that Sony who telecasted the mega event for ten seasons won’t be showing the matches at least for the next five seasons. Meanwhile, Star Sports have introduced several features, as per reports in Indesport. which haven’t been a part of the previous seasons.
The event will be broadcasted in six languages in ten channels, which includes commentary in Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, Telegu and Kannada. Virtual reality would also be introduced for the fans in order for them to come closer to the action in the stadium. Meanwhile, one can also play and predict every ball apart from watching a game in Hotstar.
There is also a feature called the ‘Select Dugout’ wherein statistical and in-depth analysis from experts would be there for the fans. The tournament will have a panel of 100 commentators, which have 24 members on the world feed, including the likes of Dean Jones, Sanjay Manjrekar, Brett Lee, Pommie Mbangwa, Ian Bishop and many more.

Also, there will be 85 brands as the broadcast sponsors of the tournament and has Vivo Coca-Cola and Jio as the title sponsors. The sponsors can also build their brands using the event as a platform. Meanwhile, Sanjay Gupta, the Managing Director (MD) of Star India, iterated their strategies they will be implementing for the next five editions of the cash-rich tournament.
“Over its 10-year journey, the IPL has grown into the single biggest property by far on Indian television. And now that it is on the Star India network across both, television and digital, we are set to use the confluence of technology, consumer insight, and experience in cricket coverage, to broaden the outreach and experience even further” he said.
