IPL 2018: One Indian Player who might be dropped from each team next season

The 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) ended on a high with the Chennai Super Kings being crowned as the champions. It has been a dream comeback for the team after two years and they had the determination in them to win the glorious trophy. Most of their players have performed exceptionally well to achieve what they’ve achieved this season. The Indian players in the CSK setup rose up to the occasion and played a crucial role in their side winning the tournament. In a tournament like IPL, the chances of a team doing well fare upon how the Indian players perform. Franchises often try to buy the big Indian names at the auction and expect them to do well. However, it will not always be the case due to various factors like the current form, pressure, situations and various other things. Since some of these top Indian players haven’t lived up to the mark, we might see franchises drop them next year. This could be a strategic auction plan where they might be wanting to acquire them much cheaper. Or, it could be that the franchises telling the players that we’ve had enough of your services. Here are the Indian players likely to be dropped before IPL 2019: 1. Murali Vijay | Chennai Super Kings Suresh Raina & Murali Vijay. (Photo Source: Twitter) India’s Test opener Murali Vijay had to miss IPL-10 due to wrist and shoulder injuries. In 2016, he led the Kings XI Punjab in the final few games of the league. The 2016 season was his second best after the 2010 season with the Chennai Super Kings. After not being with the side for a few seasons, CSK bought him back in the auction at his base price of INR 2 crores. However, Vijay’s services were not required much for the franchise this season. Given that CSK had a strong opening pair in Watson and Rayudu, there didn’t need to look elsewhere. Even if they felt that they needed some other opener, they had Faf du Plessis waiting in their ranks. Hence, Vijay only got to play one game this season and scored 12 off 10 balls. Probably, he could get a lot more chances if he plays for some other team. 2. Navdeep Saini | Royal Challengers Bangalore Navdeep Saini picks 7 wickets to take Delhi to innings victory. (Photo Source: Twitter) RCB too had a disappointing season this year. They failed to identify the best XI for them and were very pathetic in the early stages of the tournament. Even the late resurgence couldn’t help their fortunes and they will have to wait for one more year to try and lift the cup. The Royal Challengers bought an unknown commodity in Navdeep Saini this year at the auction. The 25-year-old who has set for himself a base price of INR 20 lakhs was purchased for INR 3 crores, 15 times his base price. However, the RCB management didn’t find him impressive enough to field him in the playing XI. We might see him dropped next year. Murugan Ashwin and Pawan Negi too could be dropped. 3. Although players like Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer played well this season, they couldn’t come together well as a side. Hence, we might again see a lot of chopping and changing in the DD squad next year. Shahbaz Nadeem was bought by Delhi for INR 3.40 crores this year. However, the left-arm spinner couldn’t find much success this year. Although Nadeem doesn’t have this knack of picking regular wickets, he is known for bowling economical spells. But this virtue also wasn’t to be seen this year as he leaked more than 10 runs per over on an average and picked only 3 wickets in 6 games. 4. Although they got very close to qualifying for the playoffs, they faltered at the wrong time leading to their exit. However, the side showed some great character to finish fifth on the points table. MI bought Rahul Chahar for INR 1.9 crores. Rahul earlier played for the Rising Pune Supergiant and looked impressive. But, he didn’t get as many opportunities as his brother Deepak Chahar got and couldn’t get to prove his talent. With Mayank Markande rising up the ranks, we could see MI dropping Rahul for the next season. 5. Rinku Singh | Kolkata Knight Riders Rinku Singh. (Photo Source: Twitter) Kolkata Knight Riders lived up to the expectations of the fans this year. It was unfortunate to see them losing in their home ground to the Sunrisers Hyderabad to be kicked out of the tournament. However, they impressed everyone under the able leadership of Dinesh Karthik. KKR bought Rinku Singh in the auction for INR 80 lakhs. Rinku who earlier was with KXIP played one game for the team in 2017. But he didn’t get to bat in that season. KKR showed a lot of trust in this big-hitter. But, Rinku failed on the big stage only managing to score 29 in 4 games at an average of about 7 and strike rate under 100. Out of those 29, 16 runs came in just one innings meaning that he scored only 13 in the other 3 at an average of about 4. 6. Jaydev Unadkat | Rajasthan Royals Rajasthan Royals’ Jaydev Unadkat. All the results they wanted went their way and they grabbed the fourth spot to get into the playoffs. Jos Buttler played an important role in getting them to the playoffs this season and his absence surely affected them at the end. But what will hurt them the most was the form of Jaydev Unadkat this season. Unadkat was the leading wicket-taker last year and was highly impressive. Hence, he grabbed huge bids this year and was the most expensive Indian player at the auction. He has only managed to pick 11 wickets in 15 games and leaked runs at a fair clip. If in case RR still wants to use his services, they will surely put him back into the auction and buy him back at a cheaper price. 7. Karun Nair | Kings XI Punjab Karun Nair plays a shot. (Photo Source: Twitter) Although KXIP has got quite a few options regarding the players to be sacked, Karun Nair will definitely lead that list. KXIP has had the worst season it could have ever had. This season will hurt them more than the season where they came last on the points table. Halfway through, they looked obvious to make it to the playoffs but threw it away. Karun Nair, who looked in good touch this season, just threw his wicket away on several occasions for no reason at all. He failed to contribute big in the middle despite getting several chances. His highest score of the season was just 54 and that was the only time when he crossed 50. He has scored 301 in 13 games and this is really disappointing as he has mostly batted at No.3 or No. 4. 8. Deepak Hooda | Sunrisers Hyderabad Deepak Hooda. (Photo Source: BCCI) Many might argue that Sunrisers Hyderabad should be dropping Manish Pandey should be dropping Manish Pandey in the first place. However, Pandey is truly a class act and has got great skill in him. Although he wasn’t up to the mark this year, he has fared decently well and would be looking to come back stronger next year. Pandey was a vital cog for the KKR and SRH will be hoping for him to do the same next year. If they will have to opt one player between Pandey and Hooda, Pandey will definitely be the first choice. Deepak Hooda’s stats weren’t great either and he has got enough chances in this side. Hooda has only scored 87 in 9 games this year and could well be dropped next year.
