Prithvi Shaw has emerged as one of the most skilled cricketers of his generation. He forayed into the game during the Ranji Trophy and impressed one and all. He was subsequently made the skipper of the Indian U-19 team for their World Cup campaign in New Zealand. He flourished in the tournament under the tutelage of the evergreen Rahul Sharad Dravid.

He batted brilliantly and captained the team with authority. As a result, India maintained their dominance throughout the event and eventually emerged victorious. They beat Australia in the final at Mount Maunganui and romped to their fourth title- the most by any nation- in U-19 cricket. Following their triumph, Shaw was showered with accolades from every nook and corner of the nation.

A brilliant start for Shaw in the IPL

To multiply his joy, he entered the auction of the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL). He had a base price of INR 20 lakhs and as many as three teams bid for the 18-year old batsman from Maharashtra. However, it was the Delhi Daredevils (DD) who forked out INR 1.20 crores and roped him in. He didn’t get opportunities in the earlier part of the tournament.

Nevertheless, he made his debut in Delhi’s match against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at the Feroz Shah Kotla. He scored 22 runs but showed no signs of nervousness. Thereafter, he went to notch a couple of half-centuries against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) respectively. DD played their last game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Virat Kohli, the skipper of RCB, was present at the venue of his hometown. Shaw didn’t miss out on the opportunity of having an interaction with him, which would definitely help him to refurbish his skills as a cricketer. The official Twitter handle of the IPL posted their picture on the social media platform.
