IPL 2018: Quinton de Kock uplifts the mood in RCB camp after disappointing loss against CSK
"The dynamics within an IPL squad, of any group of people working hard to perform under pressure, are often hard to understand, but Quinny’s remark changed the mood," AB de Villiers quoted.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore are going through a thin time in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. They have won only two matches this season. In their most recent encounter, against the Chennai Super Kings, they believed they had the game in their pockets. Fifties from AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock had helped RCB post a huge total of 205 on the board.
In the run chase, the Chennai Super Kings had choked big time to reel on 70/4 at one stage in the game. It was stunning turnaround from CSK with Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni guiding their side to a stunning win. After the game, AB de Villiers admitted that the defeat was devastating. He noted that the mood in the camp was very dull after the defeat. The big heads of the team, coach Daniel Vettori and captain Virat Kohli, tried to lift the spirits but in vain.
QDK comes up with the big quote
It was Quinton de Kock who proved to be the ice breaker in the dressing room. The South African came up with a one liner that had everybody laughing. In his column for TOI, AB de Villiers revealed what Quinton de Kock had said in the dressing room. AB also added that the team did manage to laugh at that moment but promised to themselves that they will come back stronger in the upcoming fixtures.
“Quinton de Kock somehow found the words. ‘Come on, boys’ he suddenly declared. ‘Don’t be bitter, just be better.’ In an instant, the gloom lifted… the ice was broken… and everybody laughed,” revealed AB de Villiers.
“The dynamics within an IPL squad, of any group of people working hard to perform under pressure, are often hard to understand, but Quinny’s remark changed the mood and, to a man, we left the changing room with smiles on our faces, still disappointed by the defeat but determined to work harder and, crucially, still excited by our prospects,” he added further.
