IPL 2018: Rohit Sharma adds balance to the side, says MI coach Robin Singh

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma found his lost touch against the Royal Challengers Bangalore with a blazing knock at Mumbai. He stroked a brilliant 94 before missing out in the lost over of a well-deserved century. Rohit also put an end to the debate as to which position he should bat for the Mumbai Indians.

Not just him, even MI coach Robin Singh believe that him batting at the middle order adds great balance to the side. His versatility to bat at any position from opening to the middle order is a huge asset for any side. Robin Singh also reckons that he can play any role for the side and the best would be if he can bat in the middle.

“Rohit in the middle order gives the team a great balance. Lewis as an opener has done exceptionally well. I don’t think we need to have explosive players everywhere. You need to have a combination of different players in the line-up. Rohit can play any role for us and that is the important thing,” Robin Singh said in a press conference ahead of their tie against the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.

Teams prefer to chase because they bat deep: Robin Singh

The former Indian cricketer also gave his version on the much-debated topic these days, on why are the teams preferring to bowl first. He stated that the dew existing on the field in this part of the world is a huge contributing factor. According to him, since the teams bat a lot deeper than they did a few years ago, chasing is becoming a preferable option.

“Scoreboard pressure is scoreboard pressure. I think most teams prefer to chase now because the batting is quite deep. Being a Twenty20 game, the wickets are more batting friendly. There is a lot of dew in this part of the world in this time of the year. I don’t care what people say that they prefer to chase. If one restricts teams in the first six overs while chasing 180-190, there is always pressure,” Robin Singh said
