IPL 2018: Shakib Al Hasan believes batting is not a concern for Sunrisers
SRH's premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan believes that peaking at the right moment is the key to winning the IPL.
There were murmurs that SRH will struggle in IPL this season as they would miss services of their captain, David Warner. But the Hyderabad outfit has proved their doubters wrong by winning 3 of their first four matches in the IPL. SRH’s premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan believes that peaking at the right moment is the key to winning the IPL.
Shakib Al Hasan on doing well at the right stage
The Bangladesh all-rounder argued that it is important for the team to do well in the latter stages to win the tournament. “The teams which won the Trophy so far are those which have most of their last games. Those games are important for that is when the players tend to get tired, face fatigue and other factors. They should be mentally and physically much stronger to deal such situations,” Shakib said as quoted by the SportStar
Batting is not a concern
SRH won the first three matches this season before they lost their last match against Kings XI Punjab. They failed to chase Punjab’s total of 194, which raised concerns about SRH’s batting line-up. The left-arm spinner brushed aside these claims and highlighted the fact that SRH’s batting held their own even after losing Shikhar Dhawan who was retired hurt.
“I don’t think batting is a concern for us. If we bat well and back up our very good bowling attack, we are a very difficult side to beat,” said Shakib.
Bowling with Rashid Khan
Shakib Al Hasan further said that he is trying to do his best to improve as he is building a partnership with Rashid Khan. He also praised the coach Tom Moody and bowling coach, Muralitharan as they are helping him to improve.
“We are hoping to improve our skills and I am pleased with the way the head coach Tom Moody and bowling coach Murali have been backing me and helping me a lot,” he said.
SRH will next take on in-form CSK and Shakib argued that SRH have to be careful as CSK has some quality players. He pointed out that batsmen like Shane Watson can take the game away from them like Chris Gayle did in the last match.
“They have been playing for quite a few years now. We have to play our best cricket even while trying to improve upon in some areas,” he said when asked whether his team fears another assault from Shane Watson of CSK tomorrow like Chris Gayle took the game away the previous night.” Shakib on their next rivals CSK.
