IPL 2018: Stephen Fleming credits Ambati Rayudu for CSK's recent success
He lauded Rayudu’s fantastic batting in the tournament so far
Ambati Rayudu had been associated with Mumbai Indians for almost a decade now. He had been a potential match winner for the defending champions. However, the franchise couldn’t retain him this time around. The Chennai Super Kings thus brought him in the auctions for ₹2.2 crores.
In a batting lineup that already had players like Kedhar Jadhav, Dwayne Bravo and the skipper himself, it was unlikely that he would find a place in the lower order. However, MS Dhoni understanding his versatility in the T20 format brought him into the top order and the rest is history. Fleming lauded Rayudu’s fantastic batting in the tournament so far.
Couldn’t have been happier with Ambati Rayudu’s recent exploits
Opening the innings with Shane Watson, Rayudu has been a wonderful phenomenon with the bat. Even coach Stephen Fleming was all praise for the 32-year-old. He remarked how Rayudu was being backed to play his power game at the top. He credited him for the success of the team so far.
“He has the backing of the team to play aggressively. He is now experiencing how good he can be. His power game has gone unnoticed, but we have certainly valued it. And the performances he has put in this year have been instrumental in winning games and also staying in the games. I couldn’t be happier with it.”
He has got the confidence and the security of a regular position
His highest run tally was 395 runs in the 2011 IPL season. This time he has been reading the run charts with 329 runs in just 7 games. The current orange cap holder, Rayudu has already slammed two fifties, both coming off in CSK victories.
“Opportunity. Having the confidence that he is a part of this team. He has batted at a couple of different positions but has got the confidence and the security of a regular position. He is now experiencing how good he can be with some good form and confidence,” Fleming was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.
