Mumbai Indians opener Suryakumar Yadav has been enjoying a scintillating campaign in this season’s IPL. He is enjoying the new found freedom at the top of the order and is thankful to the team management for entrusting him with the opportunity.

Surya, who was a regular in the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise prior to this season played the role of a finisher. Normally a middle-order batsman, the Mumbaikar seldom got time to settle in and build an innings for the Men in Purple and Gold. But, back to his roots, he is enjoying the most fruitful Indian Premier League (IPL) season in his career so far.

The 27-year-old has scored 340 runs from nine matches so far at an average of 37.77. He is fourth in the highest run-scorers list in IPL 2018 and has smashed three fifties already. The latest of them came against Kings XI Punjab on Friday, which Mumbai won by six wickets. Suryakumar Yadav scored 42-ball 57 but perished in the 12th over, which allowed Punjab a sniff into the game. However, he feels that he should have stayed till the end and finished the game.

According to India Today, the right-hander said, “I’m really enjoying my new role. I didn’t know it was coming or not but I was flexible to bat at any number for this team and I’m glad and thankful to them that they gave me this opportunity,” Surya said.

He added, “I’ve been playing most of my games at Wankhede, so it wasn’t that difficult. But, I knew that opening the innings for such a big team will be a great responsibility and a challenge, so I accepted it with both hands. Rather than focusing on too many things, I kept it simple and played my natural game.”
