After the IPL auction, the Rajasthan Royals appeared to be one of the strongest teams. They covered all the bases and were eyeing a grand comeback after two years. RR also roped in its previous IPL winning captain, Shane Warne as their mentor.
But, they were struck with a huge blow before the season began. Their skipper Steve Smith had to pull out due to the ball-tampering saga. However, they made enough efforts to qualify for the playoffs. Although they got their combinations right in the latter half of the tournament, they just did it at the right time to keep them in the race.
As they entered the playoffs, they were struck with another blow as Jos Buttler, their main-man had to leave for England due to national duties. But, more than anything, the form of Jaydev Unadkat would have hurt them the most. He picked 24 wickets in 12 games last year and was the most expensive Indian player at the auction this year.
But, Jaydev Unadkat only managed to pick 11 wickets in 15 games disappointing one and all. Moreover, his economy rate was on the higher side and was almost 10 this year.
Here are the players RR could have bought instead of Jaydev Unadkat:
1. Umesh Yadav
Umesh Yadav had a great IPL this year. He was probably one of the best bowlers in the RCB set up. Yadav broke the backs of many teams right in the powerplay this year. Royals were interested in him up to INR 3.8 crores and were battling it out with DD.
However, RCB came in at the last moment and acquired him in their first bid. Yadav has picked 20 wickets in 14 games at an average of 21. He could have been a great addition to the RR bowling set up. The Royals could have probably saved the services of Jofra Archer for the death overs.
