These knocks from the skippers stand out.
2. Shreyas Iyer 93* from 40 balls versus KKR
The contest between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Feroz Shah Kotla posed a couple of challenges for Shreyas Iyer- resurrecting the hosts’ stuttering campaign and filling in the massive boots of Gautam Gambhir. He was also their youngest captain ever, but he rose to the occasion and smoked 93 runs. He came to bat after Colin Munro’s scalp, however, didn’t blaze away from the outset.
Gradually, he picked up pulled out the big shots and reached his fifty in 29 balls with a six over long-on. He was also helped by the fact that Robin Uthappa couldn’t latch on to the leather and parried the ball over the boundary. In the last four overs, DD amassed 75 runs out of which Iyer smashed 49 runs off 13 balls. In the last over, he haemorrhaged Shivam Mavi for 28 runs.
The DD skipper laid into the teenager and whacked him as many as four times into the stands. He didn’t play a single shot out of anger and timed the ball to perfection. The knock helped DD to a score of 219 runs to take the match away from KKR’s radar. To multiply his joy, Delhi won the match by 55 runs and he received the Player of the Match award and quite deservingly.
